It definitely does feel like the arrow is pointing up. Let's hope that doesn't change anytime soon!

If we don't get invited to a P4 sometime this year, and Golesh has an amazing year and leaves, we could lose our momentum. If we don't get an invite this year, while I would love to win the conference and make the CFP in 2024, there's a small (very small) part of me that would be OK with a significant improvement over last year (e.g. 8-4 with a bowl win), but not so successful a year that top-tier P2 programs are looking to immediately poach our coach (I don't think he leaves for a lower-tier P4 job). That could give us a little more time to get the invite and hopefully be able to keep our coach AND join a P4.

For example, let's say Billy Napier is dismissed at UF. Golesh might be their prime candidate given his SEC experience. And he would take that job, because although his in-laws apparently moved to the east coast of Florida in 2023 (making it a bit more likely he stays in Florida, all things being more or less equal), Gainesville and Tampa are both about the same distance away. Don't say it can't happen...

With that said, hopefully UF has a good season so that they don’t fire their HC Napier lol

This is my feeling too.  So much could go right and yet it could go downhill quickly too.   It's a pivotal moment and I want us to continue an upward trajectory.  I fear losing CAG to UF.  He would be good there.

Agreed. As a Gator fan (distant second to my USF Bulls, no worries), I'd much prefer he stay at USF for his entire career, but if he has to leave USF I think UF would be better for him than just about anywhere else.

Yeah I'm of two minds.  If everyone stays, I think we beat them next year.  Then I think our guy is gone unless we have that TV helicopter money incoming.

Only way UF hires Golesh is if he goes undefeated at USF or close to it. Which would be amazing. I don't think they'll touch him if he goes 8-4 or something.

I could be wrong, but it's very hard for me to believe the ACC adds either Oregon State or Washington State, just to help Cal and Stanford. Seems like a big reach to me, based solely on their past status as power schools. It's sad for them but they just need to come to terms that they're no longer power schools. They're now MWC schools.

It depends upon how quickly things happen.  Right now I think nationally they are seen as relatively valuable programs.  Certainly they are seen nationally more valuable than any G5 teams.   This is recency bias and perception based upon their prior position in the PAC12.  It they struggle this year with the MWC schedule and don't remain head an shoulders better than those teams then I see them falling pretty far.  But if they dominate this year and somehow maintain image and some tv numbers then they would be still be seen as potential additions to a B12 or ACC.

Question: are they considered "G5" for purposes of going to the CFP?

Man,  we are way out over the tips of our skis.  We beat Tulsa by 7 this year and suddenly Gators are plucking our coach.

I do have to admit it does feel nice to be relevant enough again to be considering such things.

GO BULLS!
