It isn’t as much to help Cal/ Stanford as to help the ACC and the Eastern teams.

First while OSU/ WSU are diminished in public eyes. As the P2 they still have that image of recent Power schools and fans from ACC would be more amiable to play them than those with the G5 tag. The fact that they have P2 money means the ACC can get them from cheaper than cal/ Stanford.

The question is, would they be able to keep all the PAC money if they left to another conference? It sounds like probably since there will already be at least a year gap between when they left and everyone else ahead of them. And it's likely something they agreed to in the settlement with the outgoing schools. But not sure if the others would retroactively fight for their money since the expectation is for that money to help rebuild the PAC. Because normally if a conference fully dissolves, all the outgoing members split the money.

I kind of like this guy's take if the Big 8 was also 10 teams.

Division I has never been more fractured, and the split between the haves and have-nots in college athletics is becoming more real than ever.

This made me laugh that they have these official conferences and then 5 people go into a room and decide amongst themselves to give themselves more money and access.

I do wonder that if you had a division of only power money schools how they will end up liking it in the end.  Part of their model is to feed on lesser teams so everyone feels falsely dominant and the donations keep flowing in.

The ACC’s academic profile, not you Louisville, has always been admirable. Cal/Stanford/SMU all helped to maintain that status. WSU and OSU won’t. Who knows if that matters in this round of expansion, but it is worth noting.

Meh. Maybe. It's not like OSU/WSU are CFB juggernauts. Fairly or not, I've always perceived them to be bottom-rung PAC schools. I guess if the ACC is hellbent on creating a western wing, they might be options, but I don't think the juice is worth the squeeze. If anything, they are more likely Big 12 adds in the future, if the Big 12 even wants them, but that's far from clear (Big 12 had financial and practical reasons to take them, but still didn't).

Who knows. I guess we'll see what happens.

His conferences are great.  Too bad it's going in the other direction...

I'd be down with bringing back the Big East as proposed.

Agree here, which makes me think that USF and Tulane (and to an extent, UConn/UAB, plus select schools from B12 but let's assume they're off the table) are near the top of the "wish" list for the ACC.

Outside looking in due to academics being too much to overcome for ACC presidents: Memphis, ECU, SDSU. OSU/WSU are interesting but I think they'd probably be a tougher sell to Tobacco Road and Co. than someone like Tulane.

But you would be loaded shacking up with old rose for her last days and be a king  afterwards.
