Ultimately the reason a school or conference would consider private equity is this:

We have potential, but we need money to be great, so we will take cash now, to owe later, because we anticipate a future where we would have extra cash is we reach our potential.

Big gamble. PE aren’t around just to hand cash out and stand back. How much control?

This dude is so self-aggrandizing.

He thinks he is better than he is. He lives for attention on Twitter.

I would still want to go to that ACC, yes. Yes, to the second question. I could see FAU going to the Big 12 in that scenario. Idk how close they are to being AAU.

I don't know either but I would think.... pretty far?  Are they even working on it? It's something that we spent at least a decade working on.

They didn't just give out AAU membership.  Ask Nebraska and FSU.

Exactly. They’ll want control and to sell their stake in 3-5 years for more than they bought. How they do that ain’t going to be pretty.

I looked for a visual, and I have no idea the year on this .... but here it is. USF and UF already there. FSU on the doorstep. UCF and FIU a long way to go, but not impossible in a few decades. Everyone else not really in the conversation. (things can change, USF 30 years ago wasn't in the conversation)

This is what I thought.  I actually like FIUs chances over time.

I just visited there with my kid and I was blown away.  Probably the most beautiful campus in the state and a lot of really good programs.  Medical school, law school, great food.

I checked them out 25 years ago and it looked like a community college.

I don't think the Big XII are happy being relegated to second tier status. The PAC 12 was a great example of irrelevance. Which left the ACC & Big XII. They want to be relevant and in close to proximity to power, which means - plain and simple - a P3, not a P2 where the Big XII make up that third. It's a matter of money. That money that the Big XII has does not compare to the P2, and for inclusion to take place, they need to be able to afford to sit at the table. Hence, Private Equity. The assumption is that the ACC will either dissolve or be forced to fill in for departing schools which, face it, would likely come from the G5 ranks (why leave the Big XII for the ACC?).  It's decision time at the ranch, does the Big XII want to be on this side, or the other side, of the velvet rope? And if you do want to be on that side, what are you willing to do - now, today - to be granted an audience? Is Blackrock / Carlyle / Neuberger-Berman stadium on the horizon? Could be ...

This data is 2 years old, but FIU is the largest Hispanic Serving Institution of Higher Education in the US. (amazing to note, the second largest is in the same county, Dade) ....

NCES.ED.GOV

The primary purpose of the Digest of Education Statistics is to provide a compilation of statistical information covering the broad field of American education from...

Fun fact, USF keeps moving closed to being a Hispanic Serving Instition and may be there in the next few years.
