Hmm, I wonder if I have this with YouTube TV?

Also, how is it not its own service? I guess the tv contract is guaranteed money and the streaming service is a crapshoot.

It’s currently on YouTubetv

i believe that when it was started it was decided to split profits 50/50 with ESPN but ESPN distributes it and runs it.

Still this year it made 150 million for ACC and same for ESPN

ACC has T3 right's to sell in a few years. I wonder how much bargaining power it has to try to increase the split on the ACCN with ESPN. "We'll give you T3 rights for ACCN as well but instead of 50/50 we want 70/30". That would be 210/90 split instead (plus whatever increase comes from Cali/TX markets). Not sure if T3 rights for ACC would be worth $60MM/year, but that would put an increased importance on growth of the ACCN to new markets. Once FSU leaves, USF might be worth a bit more in that scenario.

1). How does Private Equity take a stake in the athletic program of a public university?

I really need someone to explain how this works.

Sounds like click bait rumors with no merit.

2). Why would they invest in the Big12 and not the Big10 and the SEC to separate them further from the ACC and Big12?

Ultimately the reason a school or conference would consider private equity is this:

We have potential, but we need money to be great, so we will take cash now, to owe later, because we anticipate a future where we would have extra cash is we reach our potential.

*extra cash when we reach our potential.

With Florida State and Clemson continuing their pushes to leave, an ACC expansion could be in the cards.

For some universities, dropping sports would leave them with a proverbial white elephant: huge on-campus stadiums. Not UM. And the on-campus basketball facility could be put to other uses.

Now, with intercollegiate athletics turning pro, becoming more expensive, and increasingly vulnerable to the pernicious influence of sports gambling, it would arguably be a plus for UM if the money that alumni and boosters now contribute to UM’s sports programs could be redirected to further enhancing the school’s primary mission: education.
