When our players go on strike can we play in that stadium like The Replacements?  I would like to put on the Bulls gear and realize my dream as a long snapper.

That's interesting collective bargaining but with wildly different department budgets. Is the solution here to split up D1?  NFL players can't collectively bargain for the same amount as XFL/whatever players.

That's the challenge... Collective bargaining is a relationship between the union and the employer - so different universities, as the individual employers, would have different agreements that could provide different benefits.

And Title IX will have an impact here... the salaries for student athletes can't all go to football and basketball players -- some women's teams have to be paid as well.  So could there even be "sport specific" unions?  Or would we see something like "Student Athlete Union" that bargains for all athletes?

There has already been an NCAA proposal to further divide D1 based on how much schools can afford to pay athletes.  I think that will be where we go in the next 3-5 years.

So, we're gonna need more concertina wire and blast walls, in the form of money, to keep the insurgent G-5 schools where they belong.

Let me tell you something about NIL: It is not going to last forever. Here's what I think is going to happen, and I'm pretty sure I'm right," Dannen said, in a video captured by the TikTok account 247.huskers (Edit: These remarks occurred in April but surfaced this week; the House case settled in May). "There will be an antitrust settlement this year in the courts. Part of the antitrust settlement, 1890 (Nebraska's collective) is going to get banned. The collectives are going to go away. What's going to be replaced is athletic departments, revenue sharing with our athletes. In the budget of our athletic department right now, we have a $20 million placeholder in two years to share money with our athletes. It's in the budget right now. There's three schools in the country, I think, that have that in their budget right now: Georgia, Texas and us.

Food for thought: What if MK is looking PAST the ACC and to a new football model?  Perhaps that could be an interim hop.  🤔

With the climate going on in NCAA athletics, you’re either moving forward at a hard pace or you’re not. I think what intrigued me the most is they’re very determined to become a big player nationally.
