Agreed.  IF then yes we would look like geniuses in a regional conference and AAU status.

It certainly could have been, and as we all know it's hard to understand sarcasm or tone from text. But as it stands, we are currently being left in the dust by our peers in FL and about to go in to a huge amount of debt without any certainty of landing in a power conference.

The stadium doesn't have much to do with landing in a power conference other than it couldn't hurt. The debt incurred is based on our current home, not where we might be.

Is it safe to say that UCF focused on athletics while USF focused on academics in the same timeframe?  I feel like that was the case.

If we do end up in the ACC I feel like we made the right bet.  What I mean is the results are the same (we landed in a more desirable league than the AAC) but we have the added benefit of better academics.

BTW, I am not saying we are being considered for the ACC due to our AAU membership but I am sure it doesn't hurt.

Not entirely.  Yes, USF focused HEAVILY on academics and getting into the AAU.  But USF also had a lot of investment in athletics after joining the Big East:

  • New basketball practice facility
  • New soccer stadium
  • New baseball stadium
  • New softball stadium
  • Improvements to the volleyball arena
  • New dining center for student athletes
  • New roof on the Sun Dome

It's just that USF did not focus on football.

UCF, on the otherhand, was stuck with a football stadium across town (sound familiar?) that was going to be out of commission due to renovations.  UCF had to build a football stadium and did it "on the cheap" (relatively speaking).  USF, meanwhile, had a state-of-the-art NFL facility... and needs in other athletic areas.

Could USF have done it differently? Sure.  Would USF be in the Big 12 now? There's no way to know.

UCF is in the Big 12 for their success on the field. Nothing more. Just like Cincy and Houston. We could have easily been in their seat had we not shat the bed for an entire decade.

Agreed. Hopefully it’s not too late for us to turn things around.

I think we are in a great position.  New stadium, AAU status, great recruiting, basketball and football coaches are the best combination we've ever had.

USF is really shaping up to be a school that checks all the boxes. I have 4 college age kids and have looked at more schools than I care to think about and USF stacks up very nicely.

FSU - fun school with good academics, athletics and night life. Stadium reminds me of the big sombrero.  Tallahassee's a decent City. Kind of reminds me of a small Austin.

UF - great academics, great athletics.  Off campus is a train wreck.  Stadium looks like a cathedral from the outside but admittedly I've never been in it.  Gainesville is horrible.

UCF - decent academics, decent athletics, decent of campus nightlife.  Stadium - bounce House that the kids love. Orlando is an improvement over the other two.

USF - great academics, athletics on the rise, off campus on the rise (hopefully).  New stadium.  Tampa is a great City.  Lots to do. If they put in some public transportation to St. Petersburg and the beach, it would be even better.

I think it's safe to say that their success boils down to turning a blind eye, ethically and morally, to hire/keep a **** good football coach ..... and it paid off.

Hope you are right. I still predict that we are stuck in the aac until the end of the 2020’s, and if we do get the call it will come in the early 2030’s.  We will see.

With the climate going on in NCAA athletics, you’re either moving forward at a hard pace or you’re not. I think what intrigued me the most is they’re very determined to become a big player nationally.
