Loaded question as I assume you've read the replies including that of our own @Mike Stuben.  Yes, replacing FSU seems to be the only way we get consideration in the eyes of most.

Didn't make that clear. I didn't read the replies and was as just curious if the replies outside of our diehards and Williams had alternative choices to us replacing FSU ....

I would think ND would take Fsu's spot. If the acc or b12 expand then usf+ whoever takes the next spot for expansion. ND isn't guaranteed  a spot in the new playoffs without a conference.

Notre Dame isn’t joining the ACC for football. They will still be able to make CFP if they are in top 12

Well according to the last statement from power 4 cfb committee being ranked in top12 as an independent does not give you a playoff spot.  So there are sec or b1g teams with stronger scheduled and same losses they will get in. The b1g and sec have positioned themselves  to control the cfb with espn.

The only conference Notre Dame would ever join is the Big 10.

Would like to see that statement. The 12 playoff teams should consist of the top 12 ranked teams by the Committee, 11 if the G5 conf champion is outside the top 12.

Someone posted the link earlier, but ND is lumped  in with Wazzou and Oregon State. Only conference p4 championship and best g5 conference winner gets a spot. The others are up for grabs and will be based on strength of schedule. The TV deal also pays significantly less for cfb for independents. The Committee can vote in their best teams, but doesn't have to be the best 12. So I am sure if there Is a sec or b1g team with same record or one more loss than independent team that has more p4 wins they will be selected over ND. The Committee would still vote ND in if their record and sos puts them in the top 10. Espn, the espn cfp committee, sec, and b1g are doing everything they can to separate the Sec and B1g from the other conferences and teams and pack the playoffs.
