Multiple conferences have been named as potential landing spots, led by the Big Ten and SEC. Reports surfaced that the SEC has little interest in adding Florida State, but Thamel noted that the conference could add the Seminoles to block the Big Ten's expansion into the state of Florida.

Florida State's potential move could trigger another round of realignment across college football as many speculate that Miami and Clemson would leave the ACC if the Seminoles left the conference.

Yeah, and as Pete pointed out, it's always the attorneys who walk away winners in these situations. But thinking in terms of "planting the flag", it sounds more like chess or a game of Risk than football.  Like back when a school would scarf up all of the quality players solely to keep the competition from signing them. Never intending to play them, just don't want YOU to have them.

Wait, so you’re saying a P5 team that went undefeated, doesn’t “deserve” a playoff spot over two 1 loss teams, because they continued to win without their starting QB?? I don’t think any sport that has playoffs, decides what teams get in based on anything but records and tie breakers. I can’t think of a more corrupt system that would let someone override season results for who they “think” is better based on roster conditions…. Playoffs are decided by records and championships, FSU should have been in the CFP and it is criminal that they are not. Those poor kids were just screwed by a bunch of pompous a-holes that decided they didn’t want FSU in and robbed them of the experience and the program of the money and achievement. I dislike FSU big time, but what was done to them was plain wrong.

Why did the ACC add cal, Stanford and SMU, but didn’t negotiate higher media contract as a result? It was stupid and honestly makes the conferences worse and worse for USF as well if we replace FSU. The travel is ridiculous, and the programs don’t add much in terms of viewership.

We play in a conference with uab, North Texas, Tulsa, Charlotte etc. It's an embarrassment to the university to be associated with these schools in any way. Going from association with dross like we have in the Aac to Stanford and cal is a massive jump for us regardless of the financials. Smu did right to pay their way in, they recognize that this conference is a giant anchor.

The ACC is going to be back to the market before 2027 it looks like.  FSU will be gone and maybe a partner depending on whether they are SEC or B1G bound.  This is the time for USF to make our move.

Great point and the use of dross was equally impressive, we are preeminent and should only be rubbing shoulders with elitist’s that run in the same academic circles.  In all seriousness, that level of competition is much better and would be a huge step up regardless of how much it gets watered down.
