MSU has never won a national championship in football.   For our state only FSU, Miami and FL have (despite UCF's claim).  

Per google search:  The top 10 teams account for 71% of all national titles won in college football. Since 1869, only 47 different teams have been crowned as national champions.

The BM's post wasn't about national championships. It was about being ranked #1 in the CFP's poll at any point during the season. Now, if he did the same thing for having been ranked #2 .....

That's the point.  Such a tiny number of teams that have been ranked #1 in the CFP's poll.  Then they didn't go on to win the CFP national championship anyway.

Ruminating on this and my belief is that if USF can win big going forward then we will be in the discussion for inclusion, either in a split or in further realignment.  Sure we're taking other steps to improve our appeal, but the key factor might just be success.
