The MW isn't getting that much of a benefit.  This new conference isn't that much better than the old conference with Oregon State and Washington State being added.  They are still a "G5" conference.

It would be like adding Boston College and Syracuse to the AAC.  Sure they're more well known, but OSU and WSU are not that much better overall.

The AAC slipped behind the MWC when the Big 12 took three teams, this "Mountain PAC 12" doesn't change things that much... and the AAC has greater potential to move back ahead of AAC at the top of the G5.  Remember, the proposed merger won't happen until the 2026-2027 season, so the AAC has the chance to earn two playoff bids before that happens.

Nope... and the merger doesn't matter.  B1G and SEC wanted just the top 12 teams... other conferences wanted 6+6.  So this 5+7 is the compromise.

The schools received confirmation from the NCAA about conference membership requirements.

Wilner NCAA confirms Wazzu/Oregon State have correctly interpreted the rules and will be allowed to compete as a 2-member conference in 2024.

If WSU and OSU are keeping you alive....you dont have much longer. They have literally been disrespected by the P5, so that should tell you enough.

They were looking at $30M per year with most of their "premium" teams still in the fold (after USC/UCLA announced they were leaving). Maybe they get $15M, but I can't see it being much more than that. There's a reason Wazzou and the Beavs were left out in the cold: the media companies just don't value their brand like that. Adding an entire G5 conference isn't gonna change that, but at least they'll be stable.
