I think the conference playoffs would probably only be like top 4 or 8 teams. That way you keep the number of games down. I think there still might be a few bowl games out there, but those games should be absorbed into the playoff structure.

Actually under some kind of 24 team pod system, etc. you could make each team's 12th game be the 9th conference game TBD.  That last weekend of the season could be used for a 4 team semifinal to determine who goes to the CCG the next week.  It would include the 3 pod winners plus one wildcard team.  Everyone else would play someone they didn't play during the season as their 9th conference game.

That would make thing’s meaningful and productive.
