I've been thinking about the possiblity of getting added to the B12.  They desire FL (more of it) for recruiting and to ease travel woes.  We could do a similar thing that SMU did and sweeten the pot by offering to take minimal revenue.  The ACC is moving western.

If no power conference, then I vote in this order:

1) independence

2) best of the rest

3) stay in the American 

4) Funbelt 

5) FCS

If we don't get into a power conference in the next few years, I think we just have to resign ourselves to small time football, moral victories, and little coverage of the team. The diehards will still be around even if few others care.

Well, if I were playing with real money, I'd bet on being in the AAC for more than a "few" years (how is 'few' defined? Is it three years? Five?).  Our old drinkin' buddies in Orlando are the youngest (measured history of playing football) FBS team, having started in '79, a full eighteen years before USF began playing. So, assuming a measure of historical precedent, USF making it to 'the bigs' anytime soon (similarly defined as "few") would be miraculous. And I don't put much stock in miracles.

I believe us, uconn, and Tulane are the only schools that used to be in a power conference but are not any longer.

Rice was in the old Southwest Conference.  Temple was in the Big East before USF.

 

Even so, your point is well taken.  The only team which moved up and had not been in a power conference........, well we won't same the name.
