The ACC (actually, Swarbrick) really really needed a land bridge between them and the west coast. SMU seized on the opportunity and offered itself up for free.

The only consolation for me as a USF fan is that none of this has really impacted whether USF could get into the ACC (n.b.: the ACC isn't picking off western Big 12 teams any time soon due to the Big 12's GOR). Only FSU's departure could facilitate an invitation. And that's if we've recovered from our 5-year funk by the time it comes. We need to get this OCS built and at least be competitive in the conference we're currently in.

It's irritating to me that despite all the negatives for SMU i.e., the cheating scandal, their G5 status, non-AAU status, don't have baseball,  haven't been that successful lately, and they're a small private school, etc., they were invited.  It could be the last G5 team elevated.  I'm salty.

Yeah. I think under ordinary circumstances, the ACC wouldn't have given SMU a second thought. But unfortunately, these weren't ordinary circumstances and SMU played their cards right.

I look forward to seeing the ponies get pummeled every year by Wake and Duke (not to mention FSU and Clemson).

My wish is that USF is given another opportunity as well.  Agree that we have to keep working for the chance to prove we are worth it.

This is from last year.  Remember, Dickerson was supposedly given a gold Trans Am by a Texas A&M booster back in the "wild wild west" days.

We have to start regularly beating these guys before we’re to be taken serious in realignment.

SMU is headed for greener pastures in the ACC. How it all happened is a Texas-sized story filled with billionaires and big decisions.

This is stunning.  Intense.

A Mountain West-turned-Pac-12 may or may not maintain Power 5 status, however. Committees in the NCAA and College Football Playoff could strip its voting rights and revenue distribution privileges.

Also, NCSU supposedly changed their vote to add the 3 schools because of SMU and the financial impact.  Like Calford is just along for the ride.  Money does make the world go round.

With the climate going on in NCAA athletics, you’re either moving forward at a hard pace or you’re not. I think what intrigued me the most is they’re very determined to become a big player nationally.
