However, independence might be a better option later if the CFB playoff returns to exlusivity with no auto spots for G5

The way things have been going in CFB and for USF, we may soon be an independent whether we like it or not.  I'm just not sure if that means we will get better games to play or if we will just be left playing with ourselves.

What he is doing is making sure he has at least two teams in Texas and FL in case one of them leaves.

Yes it almost like they have already anticipated a lot of the moves.

Yes! I only say independent if and when tons of other teams do that so it will help with scheduling flexibility. However don’t leave money on the table

No disagreeing with any of that.

Trust me, we are trying to find a better home.

I have no doubt we are trying, I do doubt if we see it as the only matter of consequence. I think we believe that we can walk and chew gum which is interesting since we haven't really exhibited proficiency in either. Every action, every decision and every dollar spent should be measured against our single goal of getting out of this conference; the OCS is an intentional distraction that wrongly thwarts urgency and focus. The argument now gets framed in terms of we have until the stadium gets completed instead of where it belongs 11 years ago.

A bad precedent has been set here if SMU is literally not going to take TV revenue for a period of time.

I agree.  It will remain to be seen if that was a genius move or not.  There's a lot of desperation showing from the networks all the way down to the teams.

I think this is a totally false premise.  It's about building our tradition on campus.

The OCS has brought my confidence in USF football back. To take that away will be very hurtful…

Exactly. Think I would thrown in the towel if RJS was the only option.

I would be interesting to read a complete financial analysis of going independent in football or something of that nature.

Silver lining.  These 2 coast conferences are like unstable radio-isotopes.  I just don’t see these arrangements working out long term.  To me, things have to go back to regional.  We need to be winning when that day comes.  This is stupid right now.  Imagine if they did this at high school level and put Pinellas schools in regular season games with Miami schools. Very short sighted.

With the climate going on in NCAA athletics, you’re either moving forward at a hard pace or you’re not. I think what intrigued me the most is they’re very determined to become a big player nationally.
