SMU is getting $0 from TV for SEVEN YEARS.  If USF could afford that, and no way it could, USF might be in as well.

My fear is this is the new precedent set for conference realignment.  If you can't pay up, no go!

Exactly! And when FSU leaves USF better not cave in and take BS deal like SMU did.

The only reason SMU got in was because they aren't getting paid for 7 years....plain and simple.  We'll have our chance, but now was not the time.

Then we had a path and we decided to fail, again. Instantly we would have excitement injected into the program, instantly we would become apart of the conversation again and instantly we allowed yet another team to pass us and continue to make us less relevant. The price of poker goes up in each round it does not go back down.

Because that’s how life works, the standard is set and someone else now knows the path if you aren’t willing to take it.

It does take SMU off the board for expansion with a rebuilt PAC.  We shall see how that unfolds.

At least we should see the PAC finally move forward with adding teams I think lol

So i guess this move by ACC pretty much seals the deal in that FSU is going to be exiting soon.

Even with Stanford Cal and SMU gone it still did not resolve our immediate issue. You need 11 members to dissolve the conference. That means we have to take 10 from the existing AAC.  Meaning if the the new league is only 16 teams we can only take the the PAC 2 plus 4 from the Mountain West. Or do we all pay the exit fee and leave which would be very expensive for us unless some cable network is going to pay this new league more which I dont see.

So what....do you really get excited about the prospect of playing Oregon State and Washington State? I sure don't. A rebuilt PAC with Stanford and Cal would have been much more enticing. OSU and WSU seem destined to land in the MWC now. There is no advantage to them going to the AAC.

If only there was some sort of way to invest $350 million into the program that could be used on something actually consequential instead of a mausoleum vanity project or we could see the same math that smu sees that the conference distribution minus the tv is still higher than the entire aac distribution…. If only.

Your characterization of the project is flawed though.

They were always going to leave anyway.  I guess their vote is now diluted.  I guess ACC did the right thing for survival but the team selection geography is weird and makes little sense.

Yep now it makes sense for MWC to gobble them up and be done.
