BIG XII Maybe Considering the AAC for Expansion

Let’s sum up why Big 12 will not expand in the immediate future
1) Especially taking an $1.7 Million AAC team

This year the Big 12 TV revenue
was the highest amount paid per team in a conference @ $26 million per team

2) Just follow the math folk’s
Since the Big 12 has the network guarantee
that assures any existing current B-12 school
will not see a drop in the per-school earnings by going to 12.

IF Big 12 had to expand, @ current revenue rates,
the split would lower each teams take
to $21.5 million per team @ 12 teams
3) A TV network would have to pay @ the minimum,
to the other 10 teams
Around $4.5 million to each team
plus an initial 1 million or so per team for a ConfChumpGame
That’s an xtra $55 million a year a TV network would have to cough up
Sorry, Ain’t goin’ happen
Big 12 is sitting tight for @ least 12 years

1) This is a false assessment of the AAC schools value to the B12. For example: Switch Tulsa and OSU, Tulsa wouldn't diminish the value of the B12 and would eventually make $20 a year in the conference. OSU would not add any value to the AAC nor diminish it either. Therefore, OSU would drop to $2 mil per year.


2) Your math is off because the AAC schools would accept much lower payouts than the current B12 schools. Consequently, they can give the B12 access to Florida recruiting, increase the B12's eastern footprint, provide eastern companions for WV, and create an actual eastern division for the B12 if combined. The schools that are the best choices to accomplish the aforementioned are ECU, Cincy, USF, and UCF in my opinion. Moreover, Cincy and USF were with WV in the former Big East, so they have history together. No other mid-major conference can offer the B12 better options.

3) Regarding the tv networks, Fox and ESPN have already advised the B12 on expanding:

"You know how the television networks always claim they aren't involved in conference expansion?

Yeah, they're lying.

How do we know? Because yesterday we finally got our conference expansion smoking gun....

The Big 12's expansion memo flatly contradicts this ESPN contention. The Big 12 had not chosen to make a move or secured its new schools. The Big 12 just wanted to skip ahead to the last item, what does TV think?

The issue now is if B12 expansion is a viable option for Fox with AAC schools. The only way I see it happening is if the B12 decides to have an actual eastern division and Fox paying $$ for it. Having actual eastern and western divisions would give the B12 the uniqueness (and additional $$) that the former Big East tried to achieve, but failed....
