they won't want to split the pie that much. the NFL would have 57 teams if it made financial sense.

We shall see. They will want quantity, especially if they will all but be abandoning the other leagues. I can't imagine FSU, Miami, Clemson, UNC, and potentially Virginia being left out. Maybe the number is 20 in each conference and there are two divisions with the top 2 in each division playing for a shot in the conference championship. Either way, USF will be left behind and relegated to the minor leagues.

there is a reason why  major pro sports leagues have between 30-32 teams

I should have added that college football is inherently different than the NFL given the connections and ties that alumni have to each school. Every year, these schools are admitting another 5,000 to 10,000 potential new fans. College football is a lot less reliant upon market size than is the NFL. Also, the NFL would have an issue with talent if they were to expand further. There is definitely enough talent to fill the rosters at the college level.

if quantity were all that valuable the NFL would have 60 or 70 teams at least.

I could see those 5 moving up maybe with kansas but then vandy, purdue, northwestern, rutgers  move down. that puts you at 34ish

That will never happen.  Relegating teams Is too cumbersome and sets a precedent that no other school wants.

if there is enough talent to fill college football then it stands to reason that there is enough for the nfl

alabama, texas, etc will not want to split $$ with the 54th place program.

they will not just add big 16 members or leftover acc members just for the quantity.

It will happen. It just won't be called relegation. Top SEC/B1G teams will move to form a new conference and leave them behind. Therefore.... The cycle will continue forever and ever and ever along with this wonderful (or not so wonderful) thread :)

what happened to washington state and oregon state?

what happened to arizona, asu, utah, and colorado?

what happened to us when the BE dissolved?

we were all left out.

same can (and has) easily happen to dead weight of a conference if they reorganize.

USF is going to be fine. People need to start putting less focus on the power whatever conferences and focusing on USF and the many positives. I was student at USF when we didn’t have a conference and we were playing Stony Brook. I still miss those days and games. I guess I’m just a USF fan.

But unlike the NFL I cannot convert to being a UF or FSU fan, whereas all of the state of Florida can adopt an NFL team.

I was excited about the season until I read the doomer stuff.  Hopefully it spikes again before the long drive to Wherever, Kentucky.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
