I hated these additions from the moment they added them. Just doesn’t make sense and as you said, it weakens the brand of the conference and the universities that are in it. It’s an embarrassment that they are in the American. We should have just stayed at 10 or 11, quality over quantity.

And yet some are arguing that quantity will save a conference from poaching.

Yeah, I know. One of the problems of quantity is that you have to spread the money over more plates and if you have multiple plates that don’t contribute, that’s even less and makes no sense. Any G5 should get the most valuable assets and replace as needed, don’t try and get ahead of the game and poison the well (who knows if any more expansion will happen for P4’s taking G5).

The two things that can protect a conference from poaching are being higher on the food chain and parity of the parts of the conference. The issue with stability through numbers when you are lower down and lack parity is that it does not solve for the actual problem that your top teams will still bolt for the better opportunities above them while not answering the question of why would anyone want stability and continuity in the left behind bucket?

A porta potty is not somehow better when it meets its capacity of waste and is actually is far more valuable by having available volume. 

This is like Monty Hall problem on steroids. We have three doors we get to pick from as a conference all of which can be anything. Monty shows us the booby prize which is taking the exact path we have been on, but now with even worse parts. The proper selection is to switch choices to the unknown door but unfortunately we say we would like to switch prizes to the one they just showed us because its the only one we can see it in this very moment. 

This is a problem with high paid executive leadership, sometimes in the face of adversity the best option is to do little or nothing but no one feels they get paid big money to make a decision to do nothing.

To me, it's not enough money for the ACC to risk taking on teams that eventually will be voting members and influential on conference matters.  They will be diluting their power.  These new members won't save them in the end.  What do you think ESPN is telling the ACC to do?  Biggest threat is FOX and BIG, right?  How is this move/additions lessening the risk of teams leaving the ACC and going to the BIG?  As for adding SMU, that's a no from me.  Again, not enough to gain.

To your point MWC teams get paid a little more than 1/2 what AAC teams get paid.........adding those teams to the AAC would erode the media deal unless someone is willing to pay those teams double what they are currently being paid.........doesn't add up

By your logic, ucf (or any school that has moved up) wouldn't get a pay bump.

Probably only P4 spots or zero.  Top ranked Gx team will have to be ranked in the top 12.  SEC/B1G powers that be will make sure that never happens unless it's truly a 13-0 team that beat a couple top P5 teams in the regular season.
