"Commissioner Jim Delany told CBSSports.com that his league entered confidentiality agreements with possibly six or more schools to protect conversations about conference membership."

Bill O'Brien is a football coach. WTF does he know about what is going on? His job is to win football games, not broker deals for schools to change conferences.

Besides, thinking realignment is not done is not exactly a thin, brittle limb he's going out on.

Pretty sure the AD would keep him up to speed.

Not sure why you think that, although you certainly may not be wrong, since the only two that would know would be O'Brien and the AD.  It's not the AD's job to keep the football coach informed of conference landscape.

Here is the other thing that really hasn't been discussed.

Let us assume that GOR's are binding, and the pool of expansion candidates are limited to school who have not signed one.

If two power leagues are looking to expand (Big 10 and Big 12). Let us also assume that those two leagues aren't sharing information and working together.

Realistic candidates:

Big 10:

UConn

Cincinnati

Notre Dame (I don't think they are included in the ACC GOR)

Vandy

Missouri

Big 12:

UConn

Cincinnati

USF
UCF

BYU

Boise

Houston

I don't want a debate if all of the teams listed are truly possible targets.

The important thing is the overlap of UConn and Cincinnati .... this may push the timetable up for everyone. The last thing you want to do is decide you want a school only to find out they just agreed with the other league.

Here is another question. If the Big 10 gets Vandy and Missouri (and I know it is unlikely anyone leaves the SEC, but lets just remember that it is presidents and not AD's making these decisions) .. is the SEC happy at 12 members, or does it need to expand?

The ACC can also still be a player. I think their next round is 2 schools, Navy as a football only to balance out Notre Dame as a member minus football ... plus one more.

If the ACC, Big 10 and Big 12 combine to add 4 more schools, I think we get a new home ... but the order they add may be vital.

Things that could kill our hopes:

Big 12 deciding it wants 2 football only members (boise and BYU)

The Big 10 chasing SEC teams.

I've said it before, this isn't the difference between the way things are today and being in a better league. If we don't make it, odds are the AAC will even be weaker with at least 1 -3 other teams leaving. We are dangerously close to sharing a conference home with FIU and FAU.

Sharing with FAU & FIU would cut down on the travel .

True, it is not the AD's job to keep the coach informed, but if the coach asked, then I think he would be up to speed.

Of course you could say that about everyone who has commented on this thread.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.

With the climate going on in NCAA athletics, you’re either moving forward at a hard pace or you’re not. I think what intrigued me the most is they’re very determined to become a big player nationally.
