I heard somewhere we only beat one FBS program the last three years ..... pretty much every FBS guy is above us.

So idk why this came to me now. It's not relevant but I'll write it anyways. Last year I'm sitting at the uf USF game surrounded by gator fans and when we took the lead I muttered to myself how have we only won a single FBS game in the last two years?? Guess it was louder than I thought.

They thought I was embellishing and oddly talking smack somehow, then a loud older gentleman says what'd you mean you guys have only won one game against an FBS school in 2 yrs?!! That's not possible.

Someone else looked it up and yelled at everyone holy crap he's not kidding those guys are terrible lol. I couldn't yet could believe how all of those people (easily a dozen) had no idea of us. Kinda sad at the same time. Anyways I guess the depressing silver lining is that they then turned their attention back to their beloved gators and started yelling junk at them as they were losing to a really horrible team so at least it fueled the fire...

A home and home with each other. Like play each team in the western pod twice?

As I sit here trying to come to terms with what is happening in CFB, I have been thinking more indepth about conference composition and the recent realignment.  Even if we aren't involved, it shall be interesting to watch this all unfold.  The TX-centric B12 is suddenly not so.  They will lose that voting bloc.  The B10 with their midwestern ideals added teams from the west coast (left coast).  If the ACC opens up to CA and TX schools, they lose their exclusive regionality.  If so, they are willing to give away their power in order to survive.  Maybe that's good.  Also, I always wonder why (aside from the ACC) that there is only one FL CFB team in the major conferences.  It irks me to see NC, TX and CA with all their multiple schools in there.

And so, we have landed at Stage Seven: acceptance.

I have asked the question, so what if USF is a mid-major program, in perpetuity? Really, what is so bad about truly competing to the absolute best of our ability (and talent and resource availability) if we live on a world firmly and clearly divided between the haves and have-nots? What if, by not starting a program until the late twentieth century, we are truly and irreparably late to the party? Can we live with that (not saying the choice is solely under our control, but...)? Why not just stay in our weight class and dominate that?

Think about all of the non-P schools out there. And I'd be willing to bet that when the next magnitude Seven hits the realignment Richter scale, that number grows. The P-boyz could very well install a system whereby if certain metrics are not met, pack your bags 'cause the bus is leaving for Mid Majorville. Could happen. We're talking about the distribution of millions of dollars. And we all know how those stories end when the robbers get back to the rendezvous.

I know, I know, this is all in fun about whipping together some fantasy conference that we'd all like to see come to fruition and one day get all amped up about the annual U of SF - Ohio State game. And I also know that the whole point of rumors and tweets is to entertain, otherwise the thread would be called Realignment Facts Released Through Athletic Departments Only. We'd never get to the rarified air of a 4K page thread.

I would be paperclip-in-the-electrical-outlet shocked to see U of SF depart the AAC anytime soon. Just not anchoring to that idea. Now, maybe after a period of being at the top of the conference and really, really distinguishing us from the rest of the Non-P universe, then we might have some appeal.  I just don't see us dumb lucking (à la Big East) into P-dom. That's just my opinion and it's worth every single, solitary cent you paid for it. 😎

This is why I say joining the BigEast was the worst thing to happen to USF. It interrupted the natural growth cycle of the program. It set unrealistic expectations for such a young program. Apathy has set in with the fan base and nothing but a Power conference is good enough. Solid programs takes many decades, some a century to build. We tried to make it happen in 10 years. Make the best of whatever situation you are in and good things will happen.

Looking like worst case scenario for us is about to happen. Pac folds altogether with the two valuable schools to the acc. The remaining 2 probably recreate the pac as a best of the mwc to keep the branding. Smu joins acc. Acc gets more stable. Zero landing spots for us for the next 10+ years.

Seriously time to consider my proposal to shut the program down and focus on Olympics

I don't think they'd accept it regardless but we should absolutely be offering to play the acc for free for at least as long as smu is willing to.

List me the on field accomplishments for football under AD MK's leadership... He put USF in a much worse place for conference realignment with his hiring of Scott and extension program without results at the worse possible time.

On field? None. To be fair the guy does seem to be able to raise money, which is exactly how I read his resume…a bureaucrat, politician type. But that doesn’t make up for the on-the-field disasters that he’s presided over. Im envisioning a Jeff Scott situation where he’s terminated by USF and doesn’t sniff another AD gig from a reputable school.

True, but Tulane is the only team left that has made it to a New Years bowl game. Cincy, Houston, UConn, and UCF are gone. SMU is as good as gone. You can only lose so many teams before your conference is on par with MAC, Conference USA, and Sunbelt.

My only point is we need to get out of the AAC a soon as we can.

someone else will step up. hopefully us. 10 years ago it was WVU, Pitt, etc going to these games. UCF Houston stepped up to fill their void.

interesting article on the downside of moving up. Great that programs get more money but it comes at the expense of winning. personally as a fan I'd rather be at a level where we can win than at a level where we makes lots of money.

The grass and cash may look greener elsewhere, but tradeoff for college realignment is often more losing. Few teams sustained success in new leagues.
