First off there is no proof that Yoda knows what the hell is going on.  I just thought we should get this thread back on topic (discussing farcical and random realignment rumors).

I believe the idea that's driving the CCG as a requirement is for the College Football Playoff.  There's no substantiated backing, but there have been random internet rumors (I'm not looking them up) that having a CCG would increase the odds that a conference teams champion will make the 4 team playoff rather than one of the "BCS" bowls not in the championship rotation.

Is it all speculation and some yahoo connecting dots that don't exist?  Maybe, but at least it's something.

Even thought it hurts whatever chance to join them, I hope they don't go to 12 and get their TRUE champion by everybody playing each other ...

They could do that, but it doesn't help their SOS by adding another quality opponent (in the CCG) as the last thing voters see.

This is the same source that said Miami to the Big 12 was an unbreakable done deal.

As much as I want to believe we are up next for expansion, I will file this in the fiction category and welcome the chance to be proven wrong.

I give this tuxedo yoda character zero credibility.

It is possible that the NCAA/BCS committee(or whatever they call themselves these days

and maybe even the media partners are putting pressure on the the conference for a championship game which creates another revenue source.

That's the thing. The assclowns in the smoke filled room will probably hold it against the Big 12 champion because they don;t have one like everyone else does.... even thought that's the best way to pick a champion.

No.  There is huge pressure for a "real" playoff system, with congress continually threatening to get involved.  Having a four team playoff doesn't really solve that issue.

IF, however, you make one of your criteria to get into the playoffs that you have to have won a conference championship game, now you really have an eight team playoff and maybe you can argue 10 or 12 teams if you say that one of the non power conferences could possibly get one of the four spots.  So that gets congress of your back, and quells some of the cynics.

So, as usual, it's about money or politics.  This component of the plan is about politics.

At the end of the day if it gets us in the B12, I'll be fine with it

Here is the one problem that scares me.

There is all this complaining about travel costs for WVU ... so having a travel partner like Cincinnati will make everyone happy. That way, WVU gets some closer to home games, and all the teams who have to go east, (think Olympic sports) can make two stops (like a volleyball team playing Friday at UC then Sunday at WVU). UC just makes a lot of sense.

So if UC is first. They won't want us #2, because then the problem they just fixed starts over, since there would be no travel partner for USF. So, what makes the most sense then .. how about a football only membership for BYU or Boise or an all sport membership for Houston.

I hope in the end the TV execs are making the call, and travel partners are not a factor. Pair us with UC or UCF, as long as we are in, both are fine with me.

I've been looking around - does anyone have any link that features anything more substantial than what this dude, Tuxedo Yoda is saying or is this simply conjecture?

Nothing on the main Rivals board.

Nothing on CSNBBS.

Nothing on Texas' board, Orangebloods.

Some mention of things, but nothing specific here, on the WVA Rivals board: http://westvirginia.rivals.com/forum.asp?fid=2824

Sorry to add this late, I can't edit at this point. I did find this thread, from the WVA Scout board as well - started yesterday:

Man, these WVA guys are into expansion WAY more than we are it seems. I'm still taking all of this with a grain of salt though.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
