I don't think they care that much. It's more than made up for by the $$$ coming in. C. Florida knew what they were getting into travel-wise, and did it anyways. I suspect UConn would as well. And dividing into west/east divisions ameliorates the problem somewhat.

Trust me, they care about travel, especially for Olympic Sports. UCF absolutely didn't know that Colorado would be a member when they joined the Big 12. Imagine if Arizona, Arizona State and Utah joined as well. I believe the 4 programs who joined the Big 12 last year are not receiving a full share right away, so the travel budget for UCF is now the most affected since BYU has someone who will be in relative proximity to them next year. A flight from Provo/Salt Lake City to Denver is about an hour.

Let's say they add UConn. How long before UConn and UCF begin to complain, and rightfully so, about how many trips they have to take to the Mountain Time Zone for all of their sports?

I can't speak for UCF, but to me it's not a huge deal because we've been going as far as Texas and Oklahoma for about 20 years with a fraction of the conference revenue and prestige. The only time we've likely had close trips was before we joined football playing conferences and had our non football sports in places like the Atlantic Sun. As an FBS school we've always been far from everyone else. Before the AAC and USF, I think UAB was our closest geographic opponent.

If the Pac-12 can keep Oregon, they have a new flagship school. Oregon is smart, b/c their biggest challenge to a conference title is USC. The Big 12 is taking all of the bottom dwellers from the Pac-12. I feel if the Pac-12 adds the school below they will end up having more football success.

1.       SDSU

2.       Fresno State

3.       CSU

4.       SMU

5.       Boise State

6.       Utah State

I agree. Oregon much better off being the big fish.

They have phil knight money.

Not sure how losing colorado to big 12 hurts pac 12 in football prestige.

they've had 1 winning season in the last 11 years (after they made the "move up" from big 12 to pac 12 ironically)

I agree with this.  This idea that teams would complain about travel and being on an island gets poo-poed as they should just be grateful for the invitation to another conference.   And then when talking about the value of USF in easing the burden, nansayers claim that USF is not an attractive candidate for expansion.  Bring up the recent record, the lack of OCS and so forth.

If they stick together and sign a new GOR as rumored, they'd only need to replace one school (Colorado) and wouldn't really need to expand to prevent extinction. None of the schools you've listed "move the needle" in terms of increasing revenue to the overall conference. I'd expect them to stick at 10 (probably add SDSU to have a presence in southern California) at least for the term of the new GOR. Maybe they add a couple down the road, but nothing to date suggests that they are progressive when it comes to expansion.

you went to texas and ou for one off football games. once a year

not for  soccer, volleyball etc where you will travel several times per year

but heck who cares about the students actually attending classes and getting an education anyway.....

I shake my head at that rumor every time

Yeah, I think it's one of two things.  Trying to keep Kansas happy.  Moreover, I think the guy is building a strong conference and not overly focusing on one sport like the old Big East.  If WBB had clout, he might reach out to Jose.

We've been in all sports leagues since 2005, so yes we actually did go to Texas and Oklahoma and even Kansas with Wichita State for the smaller sports.

Let's not exaggerate. Going to Colorado or Arizona isn't going to take that much more time than the western and northern fringes of the AAC since we're already in the southeastern most state.

I think that they would have learned from their mistakes, the Big East demise, and B12's aggressive expansion to add schools now. Especially if those schools are getting reduced shares and have to show up with Apple subscriptions to gain more money. I'd think they would "at least" go to 12 with SDSU, SMU, and likely UNLV.

I guess my point is that nobody's going to turn down a difference (eventually) of $23 million a year because they're annoyed by travel. Even for Olympic sports. Even if the B12 continues expanding west. I could be wrong, but I don't think I am.

Now that C. Florida is in, however, I encourage them to complain - loudly. They absolutely need us to help with travel. 😉

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
