Never say never but I don't think there's any way one of those conference gets "killed off". They're different animals than the PAC 12/Big 12 ...

Exactly now GSwaim who is a big 12 peep is hearing that SEC may be looking at a few big 12 schools.

Remember the quaint Big East / BCS days?

yeah consolidation was inevitable though.

I'm ok if we are in the 2nd tier as long as we can compete. wouldn't want to be a bottom dweller in top tier.

When it comes to money, it makes a big difference.

Even the bottom dwellers in the top tier can afford nice facilities and easily featured on ESPN/CFP rankings if they show a spotlight of success.

Example: A 7-2 USF and a 7-2 Rutgers... Guess who will get all the attention.

so two teams that are 7-2 would not be considered a bottom dweller and a top team.

Ask WVU fans if they prefer the Big East days over their big12 days.

Or Miami fans if they preferred their big east days over ACC.

Or rutgers fans....or syracuse fans...or louisville fans

those programs competed for national championships and were regularly ranked inside the top ten in their former conferences.

Now they are mediocre.

I'm not an accountant for the athletic department. I'm a fan.

I want to see them compete no matter what level they're at.

I could see the SEC being interested in OkSt and Kansas from B12, and possibly ASU/Arizona if they went B12, but would think the ACC schools would be of higher priority (FSU/Clem/UNC/NCst/Louisville/UVA/VaTech). Kansas makes a lot of sense for their regional rivalry with Mizzou, but they're even further out of the SEC footprint than Mizzou was. UNC imo is the only clear-cut target for SEC for expansion, then one of the Virginia schools and FSU/Clemson as a tier 2.

Seriously, why do fans care about how rich an athletic department is so much?

rutgers was way closer to being a contender before they joined the Big10.

what is there left to spend all this extra money on after everyone has great facilities too? Texas spent millions renovating their locker room twice within 5 years, that just seems wasteful

theyll always be able to poach our coaches with that extra money but that’s about it

I don't know.  Ask FSU why they are clamoring to play a bunch of teams they have no history with.  It's totally upside down to what fans would want.

That sounds nice and all... but a consistenly losing team, can have a one-off good year. I mean, USF showed a spotlight with Taggart, and then fell to the bottom to this day.

All the teams you mentioned are absolutely enjoying that bigger P5 money.
