They may just go to court and take the chance. I'm sorry but I mean half a billion dollars is ridiculous

The Pac-12 needs at least one new member and so does the...

That was a number that Dennis Dodds at CBS Sports came up with last year... that's not likely correct.

The UNC Athletic Director said the GOR number starts at a high of $360 (12 years at $30 million per)... but the uncertainty arises because that's not going to be the final number.

Plus the fact that schools could pay some portion of it over a period of time.  Let's say the negotiated GOR + Exit fee ends up at $300 million total to leave for 2025-2026.  FSU agrees to pay $100 million up front and pay $20 million per year for 10 years.  THAT number is easily doable... Worst case scenario, they could borrow the $300 million from their Foundation with the promise to repay it over 10 years from the SEC or B1G TV Contract and/or additional donations.

FSU, Clemson, UNC, UVa, Miami, and other ACC teams -- they all have the money they need to get out of the GOR in he above scenario.   With ESPN looking for money, especially over time, it is definitely plausible... the hard part is that one or more of the schools will have to sue ESPN to initiate the proceedings.  It just becomes a question of how ESPN would react.

********. No **** way anyone signs a contract with that kind of buyout. Where are the sources/links for this number. It sure as hell wasn't referenced in the article.

Dennis Dodd, reporter for CBS in 2022.

One industry source said it might take $500 million for a school to exit the ACC given the league's ironclad grant of rights that keeps schools in the conference until 2036. You can buy a lot of superstar coaches, $1 million coordinators, facilities and swag copters for that kind of money.

Resolution may come sooner than later with some well-known programs unfortunately being left out in the cold

The exit fee right now seems to be $120 million.

It's sad to see the ACC discussed like this.  Dead conference, etc.

Agree. I guess "Power" was not the best term to use for the "P5" conferences after all. Or more specifically "5" was not really the right number to attach to the "P". Hopefully, USF can go to the ACC for a pay raise regardless of the diluted "power".

ACC not apposed to expansion per ESPN….

This is ironic.  ESPN controls the narrative nationally via their reporting.  The ACC schools are essentially stuck via the GOR that applies until the 2030s.   How could the ACC expand through their desire only?

I haven't been following the GOR closely; so I am slightly ignorant on all the details.  While I understand why teams like Syracuse, Boston College, and Wake Forrest would be fully on board with it since they have a strong interest for the ACC to remain intact since they wont be picked up by the Big 10 or the SEC. But why did FSU and Clemson go along with this?

I just hope USF would not go along with something similar in the AAC.

Do we see a restructuring of college athletic where the lesser programs, that have no fan base/investment/infrastructure, get completely jettisoned from Division 1 football conferences?

There is a clear separation between the top and bottom. Would a complete separation put the have-note back into the FCS Subdivision?

What people need to understand is that the rest of the ACC can chose to take a lower amount. Why would they want to keep FSU when they want to leave? No sense waiting it out until 2036 and end up getting nothing. Take the money and let FSU go and be happy. Divorces suck so it is best to speed up the process and settle.

I don’t think the ACC will go away. They have a history of being proactive whenever the conference realignment happens. Their commissioner seems to be ahead of it right now. They will probably add more teams soon imo

I think that it’s fairly likely that USF will be in this conference in 2037, regardless of the next 14 years.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.

With the climate going on in NCAA athletics, you’re either moving forward at a hard pace or you’re not. I think what intrigued me the most is they’re very determined to become a big player nationally.
