I just hate for other people to actually think USF is getting out of here.

I’m sure they appreciate your concern but it’s okay if some choose not to wallow in misery right now.

I still see teams like FSU, Miami, Clemson, UNC getting invites to other conferences.

Maybe Pitt to B12 if they get really ambitious.

Maybe VA tech as well. That would leave 8 teams?

The more expansion/realignment, it seems the replacement candidates get worse and worse.

The way I see this realignment, four 18 teams conferences. Each split into 3 pods of 6 teams. East, Midwest, West. 5 games in pod, 2 each from the other two pods.

I also feel like I make up new scenarios each day depending on what I read rumor wise.

I’m sorry but we are getting to the point where these conferences will be too big to succeed. The tv money is drying up. I can see another WAC situation in the long run where we see these super conferences split up to create more conferences

Let me also say this, the money situation at individual schools is going to be rough because TV money will dry up, and donor money is reduced as donors are giving part of what they used to give the school to NIL. (I'm not saying that is bad, but NIL is competing with the actual schools for donations)

Yes. I’m expecting things to get even crazier in the college sports world. I do believe USF is weathering the storms and will be fine in the long run.

FWIW here's an AAU-based analysis of the PAC-12's current situation. Historically, the PAC-12 (now PAC-9) has shown a preference for AAU institutions. Now-departed USC and UCLA were both AAU schools. Additionally, current AAU membership includes (as of today, I recognize it could change very soon):

  • Arizona
  • Arizona State
  • Cal
  • Oregon
  • Stanford
  • Utah
  • Washington

Wazzou and Oregon State are not AAU. Let's say Oregon, Washington, and Arizona eventually leave for the Big 12, leaving:

  • Arizona State
  • Cal
  • Stanford
  • Utah
  • Wazzou
  • Oregon State

Instead of working out some kind of stupid marketing deal with the ACC, the PAC-12 could just create an east-coast division consisting of at least 8 AAU members, 4 in each division. Something like this:

WEST

  • Arizona State (AAU)
  • Cal (AAU)
  • Stanford (AAU)
  • Utah (AAU)
  • Wazzou
  • Oregon State
  • SDSU
  • Air Force

EAST

  • Tulane (AAU)
  • Rice (AAU)
  • USF (AAU)
  • Buffalo (AAU)
  • Temple
  • SMU
  • Memphis
  • Navy

I don't know much about TV deals, but this 16- school conference would seem like an appealing and stable conference to me. Brings in the service academies. Certainly better than our current arrangement in the AAC. And half the membership would be AAU, which would be appealing to the snottier members (Stanford, Cal).

Just spit-balling. It would be bold and I'm not sure the leadership is there to make something like this happen.

Can we change the S in USF from south to Stanford? And we can have a Christmas tree riding a bull as our mascot.

Streaming/internet money, man. That’s the new tv. I think 16 to 18 is the sweet spot, but the teams coming in have to increase value. Why dilute the money pool to bring in  a lesser program.

I agree with you to the extent that, at some point you get diminishing returns from adding school. Let’s hope we get in somewhere before that happens.

Two questions for everyone:

1. What is the max amount of schools that is feasible for a conference before imploding?

2. Was the college football product overvalued by television execs?

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.

With the climate going on in NCAA athletics, you’re either moving forward at a hard pace or you’re not. I think what intrigued me the most is they’re very determined to become a big player nationally.
