This is the part that sticks out the most to me. The possibility of FSU leaving is the domino that USF needs to fall. They have until 8/15 to give notice

Although Florida State has worked with several legal teams over the past two years to examine the school's options -- something several other ACC schools have also done -- AD Michael Alford told ESPN on Thursday that there was no change in FSU's status as an ACC member.

Any school planning to leave the ACC in the next year would have to notify the conference in writing by Aug. 15. Alford told ESPN that, at this time, there is no meeting of his board of trustees scheduled between now and then.”

You don't go get UConn and USF because they get you on par with the Big Ten. you get them because you block Big 12 from having exclusivity to the War on I4 and National Champion, you get them as a backstop against possible Florida poaching, you get them for their academic and geographic fit. It’s not a matter of if Florida State (and others) is leaving, it’s when. The ACC has to realize that. Quite honestly, the American, by adding 6 members, did exactly what you’re alluding to. Aresco even said they were not originally looking at Charlotte and FAU and going to 14 teams, but they added them to make it easier on the league (numbers-wise) to move forward when the next poaching happens.

The Big 12 is obviously making a lot of noise, but their reality is that they are losing their TWO MOST VALUABLE PROPERTIES - Texas and Oklahoma - and Houston, Cincy, BYU, Colorado and Oviedo CC combined can’t come close to making up for that.

Agreed. Only a matter of time. And we don’t have to be world beaters, just competitive and show we’re serious (see: stadium). The growing Tampa Bay market will take care of the rest.

If Golesh et al can bring us a decent year in 2023 and another step forward in 2024 - and we put shovels in the ground for the stadium - we’ll be on EVERY expansion list in the media. My hope is that it’s in whatever form there is of the ACC. Even if a group jumps - when a group jumps - it’ll still be our most attractive option.

The growth of Tampa Bay is one of the underrated advantages that USF has over many candidates. The more people move to TB the better. Sure the traffic sucks but the business it brings is priceless. I’m sure ACC and other conferences are taking notice of USF. Heck USF already kicked many of the ACC’s schools tails on the football field. I’m sure MK has probably already sent them the game tapes for a friendly reminder. And last but not least is MK’s ACC connections. He was a respected ACC executive which can carry a lot of influence imo
