If I am Oregon, Washington, Cal, and Stanford - I am calling the Big 10 right now and offering a deal where I take a 10% share in year 1, 20% in year 2, 30% in year 3 ... etc.

The good news for them is that their image & history will keep them in one of the relevant conferences no matter what happens. Heck they could go independent and still survive.

Basically it is the haves fighting over money. They are already set if they would have invested those power5 funds wisely.

Watching the live stream. They are gone.

Realignment is like the game on the field.

Playing safe is playing to lose. Pac 12 played it safe, over and over, for many years, and lost big time.

Good luck to the rest of the conference.

Not only played it safe when they had multiple chances to be aggressive, but they also played it slow and stupid.

Not sure if we've really talked about it here but it needs to be mentioned that the PAC commissioner's first actual plan was keeping UCLA. He legitimately thought they'd be able to twist their arm with the UC board was basing their pie in the sky numbers fully on that. Pretty sure that played a big part in them not taking ESPN's offer when the tv market was better. They kept dragging it out because they expected UCLA back. Then it blew up and it's like they couldn't accept the terrible options due to lack of the LA market coupled with the media companies tightening their belts.

They also rejected a partnership with the Big 12 years ago. For years they sat around while CSU, UNLV and SDSU invested in their programs. (UO @ UNLV, in Vegas? WHY THE F NOT?) The ACC partnership was a joke, and while Big 12 was thinking nationally, Pac 12 refused to look at SMU in Texas, or beyond.

They deserve to end. Good on the Big 12 and (I want to vomit but) good on you guys too.

You have to play to win. That's why you play the game.

I know VPMK knows this, that's why we're getting the Porsche of CFB stadiums and not the Toyota.

Ok, and why would UConn want to be an island? They left the AAC because a) they were way off in the northeast and travel sucked, and b) the quality of teams they were playing in basketball was a steep drop off from what their fans expect. They went back to the Big East to go back to playing regional teams and old rivalries. Going to the Big 12 only solves one of those problems (the quality of competition in basketball, at least in MBB).

For the record, nothing would surprise me anymore in realignment, I wouldn't be terribly surprised to see UConn hold their nose and take the island for the increase in media money and maintaining or improving basketball prestige.

Yet they managed to win a National Title recently.

ACC already has Tampa. We don't bring anything to the ACC unless they lose FSU.

Exactly.

The ACC has Tampa from a media perspective.  The ACC Network is already available on Spectrum, so adding USF to FSU and Miami does not help from a media market perspective.
