Hard to say Leavitt got him fired.  I would think his outrageous and false coverage of a number of things got Brett fired.  The fans HATED him.  The story not learned by most in Tampa Bay sports writing is you don't want the fans hating you.  This was the c-word, one of my favorite McMurphy exposes:

I'm having difficulty finding the article he wrote in 2006 after our win at WVU where he basically asked if USF had cost the Big East millions of dollars because WVU did not earn a BCS at large bid.

That was our biggest win to date and to even write something to the degree he did was beyond reprehensible.

Regarding the USF vs UCF series. USF should stand strong in making sure that game does not resume unless they are in a power conference. I do believe UCF wants that match to continue more than USF does at this point. Why ? Well UCF is now stuck on a island kind of like WVU is right now. I guess they don’t care because of all the money. However there comes a day when people realize that life is not always about the money.

Yes. However I do believe there is money to be made off it. Also it seems to have created interest around the nation so tons of people want to see it continue. USF needs to stand strong and not let the media  and others talk them into it unless they are ready. USF needs to work on the blueprint that Leavitt was working on. And that didn’t involve USF begging for a War on I4.

When USF could put 50,000ish people in the stands there was probably money to be made. At 35,000 I don't think so. Now, if they played at RayJay after 2026, maybe. I personally do NOT want those people on the USF campus.
