True story. Thought I hated grits. Visited Steven Benchs parents and his mom made shrimp and grits  for dinner. Took some grits to be polite. Holy crap they were delicious. Think there was cheese in them. Haven't shied away from them since. She was a great cook. Whatever she brought to the tailgates was great.

Makes sense, they're from Georgia right? Southern football mom probably puts together some great food

Grits are amazing when made right. Btw there's only one way to make grits, and that's with cheese.

As a seve3nth generation Floridian, and the son of a commercial fisherman turned real estate developer, we usually served our grits with fried mullet (gizzards, roe and all) and hushpuppies.

For this Florida cracker, there was nary any cheese in our grits.  However, my mom used to tell the tale of an old hired hand that worked for my grandfather who would often say his only meal of the day was "Poke, rolls and grits.  I poke out my lips, roll my eyes and grits my teeth!"

Nope, back on the rural route the official serving was with country ham and red eye gravy. If that wasn't on the menu, then butter would suffice.
