If this is our only option we would feel fortunate and accept the invite graciously.  Our team has been trash, we would be fortunate to be invited to any conference, our fans are freakin delirious to think otherwise.

True ....... but that's only about .000000001 % of them.

You must suck in math, there are way more than that. There are multiple people on this board alone that feel that way.

Excuse me, sir, but my math is impeccable .... it's my reading comprehension that failed me there. My figure was the number for fans who would realistically prefer to stay in the AAC over a Big 12 invite. You are correct about the number being higher for fans who think we are entitled to be in a P5.

I think when your biggest selling point to a power conference is your market, AAU status, and not your athletic program an invite is highly unlikely to occur.

All depends on what a possible conference suitor is looking for. Last time it was football, a decade ago it was a myriad of things ..... if there is a this time we'll just have to see.

I think the b12 expansion was about 99% football and a small 1% focus on basketball.

Rutgers, Maryland to the Big 10

Rice, North Texas, and Charlotte to the AAC.

These prove that factors beyond winning are relevant when it comes to realignment.

However, winning does help. But its not inconceivable for us to be included by a power 5 due to other factors besides winning .

Spot on! Some people fail to realize that stable P5 conferences like the B1G and SEC are not looking at just winning (as you point out, Maryland is a very mediocre/below average performing school and Rutgers is a joke, it was ALL about market). The B12 was desperate to keep their P5 status and therefore took the winningest football programs available. The next round of expansion will involve both scenarios. More likely than not, if the ACC needs to replace 2-4 schools they will look for a mixture of performance and market (investment), which if we can be .500 or better, will bode well for us. If the B12 is looking to add for stability and NOT survival, USF will be in a good spot if we are at least .500 (due to relationship with UFC and Tampa market), but if they are looking west, we’ll that is not good for us unless we are a playoff team, but that would be their preference. USF has proven in the past that if we are in a good conference, with a good team, we pick the stadium as good as anyone else, that WILL be considered as well. It’s a business and there are many factors that go into profitability.

Spot on.  It's all about whether or not the other members of the conference believe that USF adds value to the conference.   Value as in future $$$.  Winning or at least competing is important, but it is only one factor.  Still it is one of the most important factors.  Being the AAC doormat for 3 years running does is not helping.

Truth be told, 99% of us would jump at the first P5 invite and the money that comes along with it.  The only issue will be what new conference GORs look like moving forward, but USF would sign one in a heartbeat if it meant an additional $25 to $35 million revenue per year.
