I can appreciate you wanting to move on and look ahead.  Very healthy.

But....and this has been well-debated too.  There were too many people involved in things other than making a great program.  USF Football had the best start ever and instead we killed the golden goose.  We weren't victims as some like to plead.  We took ourselves down the wrong road which made us even more vulnerable, magnified the impact of the Big East dying.  And it was very clear - from the personnel in the Athletics Dept I spoke to - they had no idea of what beheading Jim Leavitt would do to the program.  NONE.  They thought getting a slobbery hugger in here would keep us going.

I get my peace of mind assuming we've learned our lessons on egos, politics and all the BS that brings down the good in things.

Yes! And I do believe that USF fast success put tons of pressure on the people that actually made USF football. Leavitt had a lot of critics because he was not winning 10 games a season or conference championships so I do believe boosters and others used the BS slap as a way to get rid of him and save money to hire a new coach. I doubt Leavitt’s gets fired if he was winning 10 games a season. People got spoiled

That shouldn't have been a concern on 07/01/05.

Yes and no, we did backfill Miami and VA Tech, they were splintering when we joined, it was only a matter of time.

IN MY OPINION people give a crap about watching their teams play good football, not necessarily who they are playing. The schools and/or conferences only care about the $$’s. I personally will make a road trip or two every year to see USF play no matter the conference, IF they are playing good football.

That makes 9 of us…

Yup! When Boston College left for the ACC that opened the door for USF to join Cincy & UL as all sports Big East invite

Part of the conversation I had with @Triple B pretty much falls in line with what you wrote.

On July 1, 2005, the official day that we joined the Big East, we should have announced our intentions to build a Stadium (and IPF) and start the funding at that time. I cannot fathom how much money would have come through that fund from 2007 - 2010 alone.

Didn't we have to agree to build $50 million in other facilities to bring them up to Big East standards?

I do believe the Sun Dome renovation took up a lot of that requirement…
