Unless something insane happens, USF will never be in the SEC or Big Ten. At least not in my lifetime. Could possibly join the ACC if chips fall a certain way. But I'm not counting on it.

It's OK to enjoy college football even if your team isn't one of those blueblood schools. Really, it is.

But USF needs to start winning some games. I'd rather be a champion in a smaller conference than a doormat in the Big Ten. You can dismiss it as "tallest midget" and all that BS, but that criticism only makes sense if you have the option of moving up and choose not to. We don't have that option, at least not right now.

Focus on achieving what you can reasonably achieve (win your conference, go to bowl games, etc.). The rest will take care of itself and you can enjoy the ride in the meantime. That's my philosophy, anyways.

I agree with your opinion.  I would totally rather be in a more relevant conference...this is true, but as for recently, we haven't even been able to compete with the crappiest teams in the lowly AAC that we are "too good for."  When we are playing good football, I get excited about the coming Saturday as early as Monday.  When we are playing bad/hopeless football (no matter what conference), it is 100% all about the tailgate and nothing else.

Yes!! I agree! As long as USF starts winning again I have no doubt that we will be fine. AAC should be easier to win than any of the other power conferences. And the new playoff format will help generate excitement imo

I understand that the conferences are trying to position themselves to be in the best position.

Here is where I struggle. The best teams leave the conference, then the rest are left to backfill and dilute their product, just bust up the remaining big 3 and create a cross country conference with the best of the rest from those conferences and backfill where needed.

They would have a P3 at that point, then restructure the G5 and the losers from that restructuring into geographical conferences.
