I wonder how many B1G alumni live in the Tampa Bay area?  If that would make any difference?

There are around 45,000+ listed on LinkedIn as living in the "Greater Tampa Bay area" with education at a Big Ten program... I did not add "North-Port Sarasota area" ...

If you add "Greater Orlando" it more than doubles to nearly 100,000 just publicly listed on LinkedIn.

Anecdotally, going to a Packers/Bears vs Bucs game or that Wisconsin @ USF game in 2019 shows you how many midwesterners are in the area. For any of those cases there ends up being 20-30k fans from the other team. Pics from that 2019 game show that a bit.

In the Tampa Bay area there are 10+ Packers bars

For sure.  Some of them definitely live here, but they will also travel from the midwest to Tampa Bay in a heartbeat if they have a "reason" (like a game).  Maybe not in September, but definitely when it starts getting cold up there.

I would have to think there's quite a few.  Just looking at the alumni chapters in online searches...

- Michigan has a Central Florida chapter (seems more Orlando based, but hey close enough)

- Michigan State has 3 along the Florida gulf coast (Villages, Tampa Bay, and Suncoast/Sarasota)

- Ohio State has 3 in and around Tampa Bay (centered in Brandon, The Villages, and Sarasota)

- Penn State has two in Tampa Bay plus Sarasota and The Villages

- Minnesota has networks in Tampa Bay and Sarasota

- Wisconsin has chapters in Tampa Bay and Sarasota

As a resident of North Port, I can tell you it feels like every other new resident moving in is from Ohio or Michigan. And thanks to COVID restrictions back home, many of the snowbirds who were once just seasonal residents are now full time residents.

Saw Hillsborough County is the #1 destination for people moving out of Illinois from 2009-2013. Looks like most people in the Midwest move down 41 to the St Pete/Tampa/Sarasota area while most people from the Northeast move to the Atlantic coast of Florida

The Big 10 took Rutgers. They can take us and we can actually deliver interesting games.

With the climate going on in NCAA athletics, you’re either moving forward at a hard pace or you’re not. I think what intrigued me the most is they’re very determined to become a big player nationally.
