SMU is in a (much) bigger market than USF is.  Dallas is at least twice as big as Tampa and is one of the top markets in the entire country, behind only the New Yorks, LAs, and Chicagos.

SMU is also a lot closer to the Pac 12 footprint and at one of the biggest airports in the country.  There's a reason the CFP and a bunch of conferences are based out of Dallas.

SMU is a bigger name than USF.  They previously played in a power conference equivalent.  Yeah they cheated their way to the top, but they made a big name for themselves.

Why do we care?  Because UCF (and SMU, Houston, etc.) will be making 40 million dollars more a year than us in conference revenue.  Even if it's the P2 and the Next 3, you want to be in the Next 3 and not Group of 5.

If MK isn't marketing USF to the Pac 12, Big 12, and ACC right now, he is a complete and total failure.

It is crazy to think when we witness both SMU & TCU have attendance issues. I believe Cowboys take up most of their sports entertainment share

And big 12 has a history of losing key schools. Walk into any bar and ask the people if they even know who is left in the big 12 and they may say Nebraska, Colorado, Mizzou, Texas A&M, Texas, Oklahoma

SMU has worse attendance than we do.  But, believe they are expanding their stadium by enclosing the open horseshoe end of their stadium with a 100M expansion project.  Pac 12 didn't care about attendance.  They just needed to get into the best available markets with viable programs and right now those are San Diego and Dallas.  If Tampa was located about 1,000 miles west of where it is now, USF may have been considered also.  I can't knock the SMU and SDSU adds.  Those were about as good as the Pac was going to get.

It’s all ballbearings and fetzer valves nowadays.

If located in the continental US and you’re not a part of it, there are other reasons.

While all of the above is true, but you are missing a two big reasons why SMU is getting the call: the first is academics - SMU has a strong academic ranking on part with the rest of the Pac "10" schools.

The second may be more important: Central Time Zone.

Adding the ability to have Oregon and SMU kickoff at Noon Eastern will be appealing to their media partners.  11:00am local kickoff happens a lot in the Central Time Zone schools from LSU to Texas to Nebraska to Wisconsin... but for the Pac 12 - they don't have any Central Time Zone schools... and 10:00am kickoffs in Colorado, Utah, and Arizona are not really ideal.

Both reasons (academics and central time) is why Tulane has been mention as a future option for expansion if/when Oregon and Washington leave.

this cycle is never going to change short of a complete overhaul of CFB as we know it, & there is too much old money involved for that to ever happen.

I was kind of hoping that the catastrophe of unregulated NIL would be the catalyst for a major clean up of the system.  Doesn't look like even it is enough.

Agreed.  We can help further but need an improved or new identity.

No one really cares.  With coaches, administrators and ADs running off with tons of cash, NIL, for now, shuts the mouths of the players, er, student athaletes.

I was at the MGM Wednesday.

The sportsbook was full.

Doesn't matter what day of the week, what time... we're on a 24 hr cycle now and good content is needed.

With the climate going on in NCAA athletics, you’re either moving forward at a hard pace or you’re not. I think what intrigued me the most is they’re very determined to become a big player nationally.
