This is a ridiculously bad article. The PAC 12 would have no leverage? Even with two teams, they would have a lot of leverage. The Big East split apart? Is that what happened? I thought they raided CUSA. 
 

I don’t love when fans post their random opinion as an article, but I guess that’s realignment journalism these days.

Not sure exactly your question here but the BE did split apart, after being raided, into basketball and football schools. The football schools then raided CUSA forming the AAC ...

It didn’t collapse. It raided CUSA and changed its name to the AAC. The history completely disproves the author’s point.

Exactly. The PAC won’t disappear, at worst they will add MWC schools and move on. They will be weaker but they are not giving the name, prestige, plus basketball units and exit fees

Maybe it's because we're not talking about apples to apples in comparison with the Pac12 situation, plus a bit of semantics, but the author's point is dead on. At the end of the Big East, there were 7 hoops only schools and 4 football programs. The 7 split, 2/3 of the conference, taking the Big East name with them. For all practical purposes and common logic, that's splintering and collapsing ....
