We literally are in a conference that does have a chance.

We also have future OOC schedules that give us the opportunity to be in that conversation if we run the table.

I think you will have to define the word “chance.” Yes, there is a chance if you go undefeated for two years in a row and beat Alabama. I probably should’ve use the pharase “over a .00000 percent chance.”😂

That chance is definitely smaller than before with UH, Cincy, and that other one leaving.

Cincy also had to beat Notre Dame, and still barely made it in.

But they DID make it in, so there's that.  But about the conversation about the NC...yeah, I think I would like to win a conference championship or 2 (I don't care which conference) and then start looking at the NC milestone.  Gotta learn to walk before we learn to run.  The crappier our conference gets, the sillier we will look complaining about it if we remain in the bottom half of said conference.

We need to make a bowl game every year, win the conference a few times, and then we will be at the top of the list for the next realignment shakeup.

Oklahoma State almost took that 4th spot

I am not entirely sure there... 2024 and 2025 might be the only years the OOC could do that... the rest only have one "P5" and two G5 schools... and with the changes to AAC it makes the conference schedule weaker.

Plus after the CFP agreement runs out, there's technically nothing that says the AAC will be in the same position with access.

True, but we have no idea what will be the new CFP agreement, so much rather wait until we know what it is than worry about things that might never happen. I believe an expanded playoff will still include one spot for the current G5

Like you say, I don’t think that winning a national championship should be on USF’s radar.

Screw you, man! If Central Florida CC can win one, why the hell shouldn't we strive for one ...

This whole thread is worrying about things that may never happen!!!

I saw someone on Twitter pointed out that one outcome in 2026 is there is no playoff.  Nothing says there HAS to be a CFP agreement, after all.

Worrying about things that may never happen is fun though.

I'd be glad to define it. The 2025 season consists of an OOC schedule of BOISE STATE, @FLORIDA, @MIAMI, and SAN JOSE STATE. Run that and then the AAC (a weaker AAC yes, but still with some good programs that could be Top 25) and we'd be in the CFP conversation.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
