Jesus you guys piss and whine about the media. The majority of USF football teams have had little to write about in a positive manner. As for recently, it’s even worse. The team can’t win, it’s lost out in conference realignment…again, it’s AD has made some questionable decisions, etc. You want a cheerleader? That’s not news. It’s commentary which has little value other than to make you feel good. Some of you must want confirmation of a make believe world as opposed to what is reality. Many of the articles in the other sports (especially softball and women’s soccer) are positive. Why is that? Because they friggin win. Put on your big boy paints and stop crying while this train wreck is not getting positive press.

To hell with the media. It was basically the media that derailed USF football when they made a big story out of Leavitt slapping a player during a half time of a football game. That to me was the death of the momentum for USF football

Exactly, just look at how positive Brett was in his coverage of Jim… If we get to winning we can have them actively try to destroy the program instead of just passively, sounds great! The one bright spot is they soon will be gone.

Queston for @Brad -- How does the Arizona Republic cover ASU? It's a "major sports market" -- do their columnists always pimp the Sun Devils?

I honestly don't know.  The only time I see the paper itself is in the bathroom at a sports bar.  I'm not a Sun Devils fan so I don't seek out news on them.  So not much of a sample size.  I can say that I've never seen a blatantly derogatory story from a writer.

Many will agree there have been plenty of those in the Tampa papers.  And it doesn't matter if your a columnist or a beat writer.  You can be a **** and take cheap shots, be neutral or be a cheerleader regardless of title.  I'm not saying a writer has to "pimp" the Bulls, just don't be a ****.  However, Bianchi did pimp the Tinmen, and I would prefer that over the experience we've had.  The question wasn't whether it was commonplace or not.  Bianchi did a lot of good for UCF.  They should name the Press room after him.

Jim was guilty he got what he deserved. Sad but true. If you want to blame someone blame Jim. If you want to blame someone other than Jim then blame Judy. But to think that that Jim Leavitt story was never going to get out because a journalist was not going to write about it is just plan naïve.

I’m not necessarily talking about that I’m talking about their general interactions and the tone of the reporting, the relationship was hostile long before McMurphy decided to kill that kid.

Everyone's default response on this.  I simply said I would pay more for a Bianchi.  A guy that pushed positive press.  Anyone in their right mind would.  I don't want a ********.  With a choice I'll take someone that stands in support, not someone who wants to "piss and whine" about things.

I'd argue CJL was fired more for what he did after the story broke than for what was reported on.

No doubt McMurphy had some kind of longterm axe to grind with Leavitt. I vividly remember when CJL put Brett on the spot at a press conference after he finally said something positive about the team and CJL made a show of it. I don't recall if it was up and down before that, but after that he was going to go after Leavitt any way possible.

Usf football is a failed experiment. If the tbt wants to be taken seriously as a news organization they cannot lie to people. Why would they ever say positive things about an abject failure?

I heard from a few local sports reporters and they heard of the story and didn't see the need to pursue . . . McMurphy did see the need. Wasn't for an axe to grind or just get his name out there more?

Don't Not Know . . . I've moooved on long ago.

Still a HUGE Jim Leavitt Fan!

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
