So true..

Can't believe WVU, Louisville, Pitt, Rutgers, Syracuse have been gone for 10 years-ish

This is why I am convinced they are hell bent on strip mining and destroying college football.

Honestly, let the top teams form their super league. The rest should go back to the BCS system.

BCS was more fun and the big bowl games were fun to watch.

If FSU to the SEC is happening USF to the ACC would be logical.

Of course Memphis is saying the same thing as well.

My football ticket purchases would skyrocket.

It only makes sense because we are a have not but there is nothing about Alabama and Troy swapping places that is ever going to make sense to Alabama, the SEC, tv networks or just about anyone in America.

I have a special affinity for Troy because of the Joey Knight connection, he is the bomb!  Maybe somebody with his clout can orchestrate the swap.

Yet, European soccer seems to do it with great success. I don’t understand the ins and outs of European soccer or relegation, and I won’t pretend I do, but in concept I care much more about competitive football than TV value.

Well I do know about it and it's not all that it's cracked up to be. The same teams win the big prizes unless a lightly regarded team becomes the plaything of some sportwashing oligarch or country, see Chelsea under Roman Abramovich, PSG, Manchester City. in Italy Juventus won like 10 titles in a row before their players got old. Bayern Munich in Germany is currently in the midst of their own 10 straight league titles. PSG wins in France unless they're bored. only 7 teams have ever won the premier league in England, with Leicester City's 2017 win being a shock for the ages. Before the sugar daddies came in and diversified the winner list, it was just Manchester United and Arsenal competing for the title.

Relegation is a good concept, but because the stakes are so high it's dog eat dog and the big dogs eat the most.

Yes, it's behind a paywall... but this shows the TV strength.  (NOTE: The Athletic has some great reporting on realignment issues, worth the subscription IMHO).

Relevant points for those who don't subscribe (these are copied from the article, but not they are not in this order in the article).

From 2015-19 and in 2021 there were 914 rated regular-season (no conference title games) televised games not involving Notre Dame or anyone who will be in the Big Ten or SEC.

• 284 of those games drew more than a million viewers. (By contrast, 732 of 951 games involving the Big Ten, SEC and/or Notre Dame drew more than one million viewers.)

So which teams cracked a million the most? Two ACC teams, followed by two Pac-12 schools.

34 - Clemson
31 - Florida State
28 - Washington
26 - Oregon
22 - Miami

...
12  - BYU, Cal, Pittsburgh
11 - Cincinnati, NC State
10 - Syracuse
9 - Texas Tech, UCF, Virginia
8 - Houston, USF, Wake Forest
7 - Army, Boston College, Iowa State, Navy
6 - Arizona, Georgia Tech, Memphis

Within the footprint, the SEC Network commands a subscriber fee of about $1.40 a month. Outside the footprint, the fee is much lower. North Carolina and Virginia are the two largest states that include neither a Big Ten nor an SEC school. Assuming the fee rises by about $1 a month for territory added to the footprint, it makes sense for the SEC — or the Big Ten, for that matter — to want to plant a flag in those two states.

As the Pac-12 deals with losing UCLA and USC to the Big Ten and the Big 12 explores a raid on the Pac-12, audience data can be instructive.

With the climate going on in NCAA athletics, you’re either moving forward at a hard pace or you’re not. I think what intrigued me the most is they’re very determined to become a big player nationally.
