Eventually all of this greed will decimate the national fanbase.  The more exclusive they make the national championship process, the less fans they will have.  I am a USF fan, and I'm not going to pick a "blue chip team" to root for on Saturdays because my team is nationally irrelevant.  That's what pro sports is for--not college.  March madness is successful because it gives the alumni of smaller schools something to cheer for now and then...and every D1 team has a "chance" at the beginning of the season.  These clowns want the college football playoffs to be 75% decided by pre-season polls that decide who is in the top 10 before the first snap of the season.

The rumor isn't that they will split, but form a new division... and if they did that, it would likely include some kind of membership requirements that would allow more conferences to move up.

As I told you, my half century of experience indicates they should have strangled USF athletics in the cradle.  It seems an OCS now would be more in the nature of a highly leveraged mausoleum.  Glad it's not on my dime.

Things might be paused for a bit.. just my own prognostication.

Fox and ESPN have an exclusive window for 30 days... rumor is that Fox has no interest any more, and ESPN isn't going to bid against itself ... which means the Pac "10" have to wait until other networks can make offers.

The Pac "6" that might defect to the Big 12 will want to know what they'd be giving up before making such a jump... rumor is around $20-30 million per year... which is less than the Big 12 has been getting with Texas and Oklahoma... but the Big 12 numbers will go down as well.

I can’t wait to see what the benchmarks will be to move up an entire conference and how different they are from “already be a P5 conference”.
