A hot take from a Raleigh sports reporter... the only way for the ACC to save itself is to go hat-in-hand to the Big Ten and Notre Dame to vote for the 12-team playoff... he seems to think the Grant of Rights will go away.

The ACC can't do anything about getting poached. ESPN is not going to renegotiate the sweet TV rights deal they have with the ACC for the next 14 years. ESPN wants to further prop up the SEC. They aren't going to prevent that from happening by empowering the ACC any further. If the numbers that we are hearing are true, upwards of $100 million per school in the B1G, the SEC is going to want the same money for their media rights and will poach FSU, Clemson, or UNC in order to get a similar deal.

As for USF, if the PAC loses Stanford and Oregon, the Big 12 dream has likely sailed, as I imagine the PAC remnants will look to move rather than stay in a watered down conference. The only hope then would be the ACC losing schools immediately and looking to backfill with schools like USF. However, I wonder if the ACC would want or need to do so. Say, hypothetically, the ACC lost 4 football members (FSU, Clemson, UNC, and Virginia) plus ND in all other sports. That would still leave the conference with 10 schools playing in all sports. Where would the desperation to add schools like USF and Memphis come from? We wouldn't really move the needle much as far as their media rights deal is concerned. I suppose there is an argument to be made for the volume of games and media market presence, but I don't know if that alone is enough this time around.

I think the only hope at this point is that the B1G doesn't expand any further westward. The PAC is able to survive and actually takes 2 to 4 teams from the Big 12 in order to stabilize their conference. The Big 12 is then forced to look for additional teams and takes USF, Memphis, and maybe SMU and another (Boise or UNLV). If USF doesn't get into a better conference now, the window of opportunity might close forever.

The only problem with your analysis is that once the SEC picks two from the ACC then you can bet the B10 will swoop in and take GT and and “at least” one other.

Not everything, sure college football is in a downward spiral, the country has gone to ****, inflation is ridiculous but I have found as I age more women look attractive,  I have begun to appreciate a little extra junk in the trunk.   And look at the bright side, you are closer to death and it all won’t matter then anyways.  I hope I was able to put a positive spin on your Monday Morning.

GT wouldn’t go to the Big 12 if only 2 leave the ACC., 4 maybe but 2 definitely not.

Meant to say Big10, they are an AAU university that fits the profile and tradition of the Big10 school. I would think the Big Ten would love to have them and North Carolina.

I don't think that ESPN wants the ACC to be completely destroyed. They definitely want to get this down to 2 super conferences and will try to own the media rights completely for one (SEC) and partially for the B1G, but they see the value in the ACC content that they need to fill their airtime. I also assume you meant to say the B1G, not Big 12, as I don't see Ga Tech moving to the Big 12 from the ACC.

While I understand the appeal of a team like GA Tech, they don't really bring a lot of cache to the table. In my analysis, I see Stanford, Notre Dame, VA and UNC being added to the B1G, with the SEC adding Clemson and FSU. I suppose the SEC could add 2 more teams to get to 20 total. There are a lot of permutations that could happen but, as I play them out in my head, most of them don't seem to work out too well for USF. I hope I am wrong, but this has all played out like I thought it would a year ago. I predicted that the B1G would poach USC and UCLA (along with a few other west coast teams) a year ago. I didn't include the ACC in that analysis, as I thought the GoR would prevent any movement from the ACC for the next 14 years. It still might not prevent it, but I am inclined to think that ESPN is going to allow a few choice teams to find a way out.

I see the B1G choosing VA over GA Tech.

Well GT is in Atlanta but yes, UGA is the big dawg. You can probably put Miami in the Big12 if they are left out as a travel party for ucf. We are so ******….

I don't think this is going to work out.   I think you will now have even more group of elite football schools and everyone else.  Why because the people controlling the outcome are only in it for money.  They will ruin this sport because of money.

With the climate going on in NCAA athletics, you’re either moving forward at a hard pace or you’re not. I think what intrigued me the most is they’re very determined to become a big player nationally.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
