Unfortunately that brief period is surrounded by like a decade of medicore football.

We definitely do bring some good things to a conference our big tv market, big school and our location...hopefully people put alot of importance on those things.

It's going to have to be the same way we got promoted initially, location and potential ...... hoping another conference has to take a chance like the BE did. The iconic overhead shot of the 2007 WVU game needs to be included in any inquiries we make to other conferences.

Who will be our new Tom Jurich?

They can't all be wrong... most of these rumor mongers are saying just a few basic things...

  • The Big Ten wants Notre Dame and will use Stanford to entice them.  They may also take Oregon and Washington to offer some additional Western teams for travel.
  • The Pac 12 remnants (with or without Oregon/Washington/Stanford) have few options for reconstituting the conference:
    • Raid the Big 12 for a handful of schools (Texas Tech, Baylor, TCU, Ok State)
    • Look at some MWC schools (SDSU, Fresno St, maybe Boise)
    • Will Fox do anything to try to save the Pac 12
    • Merge with the Big 12
  • The Big 12 needs to do something
    • Merge with the Pac 12
    • Raid the Pac 12 for a handful of schools (Arizona, ASU, Utah, Colorado)
    • Look at some AAC or MWC schools (USF, Memphis, SMU, Boise St)
    • Do either Fox or ESPN care about the Big 12?
  • The ACC could be screwed because of their GoR
    • Will anyone fight it? Can anyone fight it?
    • Will the SEC help to pry away Clemson, FSU, and others (UNC/NC State/VaTech/UVa)
    • Will the Big Ten help to pry away teams (Ga Tech/UNC/UVa)
    • Will the teams who are stuck try to restructure their contract to base payments for schools who invest more in success in football?
    • Will ESPN allow the ACC to be broken up?
  • Notre Dame is a wild card
  • The SEC started this... will they stand aside?  They'll be renegotiating a TV contract because of the UT and OU addition, so why not try to bring a few more?

Obviously all of these cannot be correct... but unless nothing more happens at all, some combination of the above will be correct.

Maybe. When OU and TX left for the SEC twitter and this board was alive with all of these scenarios. If you go back to this thread NONE of them happened. UCLA and USC happened long after and wasn’t talked about in this thread (that I remember).

Maybe it is different this time around. All I’m saying is last nobody knew. What happened few if any predicted. However if you throw out enough crap something is bound to stick.

It is clearly different this time around.

It would be nice if the school could get a remastered copy of the game so that some HD footage could be circulated. Ray Jay was absolutely electric.

On another note,  it was also the only time that demand was so high for the 12501 student tickets that some camped out overnight in front of the sundome ticket office to claim theirs...

I do T see any realistic way we get into the B12. Yes ucf is on an island but they seem bent on getting better recognized teams while expanding west

I am not sure how realistic it could be, but there is a scenario that gets USF into the Big 12 --

  1. Notre Dame declines to join at this time, in a large part because of the ACC Grant of Rights.  The powers that be in South Bend don't want to spend the necessary funds on an uphill climb.
  2. With Notre Dame standing pat, the Big Ten stops expansion at 16 teams.  The SEC then doesn't need to expand, so it won't try to pull ACC teams either.
  3. This allows the remaining 10 members of the Pac 12 to hold together, and they have already decided to expand.  Several assume it will be from the MWC (San Diego State, UNLV, Fresno St etc) - but others have speculated the Pac "10" goes after four teams from the Big 12 - from among TCU, Baylor, Texas Tech, Houston, and Oklahoma State.
  4. The hole in the Big 12 requires them to expand as well - and the only available teams will be from the G5.

Perhaps this is like trying to draw an inside straight, but it's not completely out of the realm of possibility.

IMHO -- The only other way USF gets invited into a "P5" conference is for all hell to break lose... with the result being ACC teams (FSU, Clemson, UNC, UVa, and more) are able to work out an arrangement to depart.  That would leave a hole in the ACC for USF.

That MK is publicly fighting with fans on Twitter tells you just about all you need to know about how things are going

He most certainly was not. That is a gross misrepresentation of the tweet thread and proof that people infer what they want from texts and posts.

Agreed ElMattador was acting like a baby and Mike was simply appeasing him.  I would imagine some alcohol was involved in his little hissy fit, either way much to do about nothing.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
