That’s only seven teams. Assuming those seven are in (I have a hard time believing Boise State and Memphis based upon academics among other things), and the Big 12 is expanding to 16, isn’t there one more slot? If it’s expanding only to 14, seems to me one of those seven gets left behind, and UCF seems to be out of the footprint (arguably).

Anyways, I’m always concerned when we’re left off a list, but I’m not ready to jump off a cliff just yet.

It’s still better than the AAC and will be more money.

Not if the AAC teams don't jump ship. What will the Big 12 do if they're future existence is dependent on raiding the AAC and fail? The Big 12 will then be forced to collapse, leaving the AAC in a better position in the long run. I hope Aresco has some chops and lays it all on the table.

Well sure teams could still leave the B12 in the future. And this could happen. But right now team for team and the money available any G5 team would take the deal.

I like that but the T teams (Temple, Tulane, one or two others...) and us may think that, but those moving to B12 won't.  We'll be fighting with the Ts for room in C-USA.  Then we all contemplate jumping.

It's the end of the world as we know it.  Purgatory was one thing, the next slide would be the end.

Gotta have faith

Just like when TCU joined the Big East on the verge of collapse.

I would hope any self-respecting program isn't that short-sighted.

Our best hope at improving our situation was to have the B12 crumble and have the remaining schools either join the AAC or take a a lot of schools from the AAC to form a new B12.  Once Pac 12 said no expansion, the odds of all 8 staying together is high.  So they will probably take only 2-4 teams of the ones mentioned by Tramel and apparently USF is left with these guys

Let’s say this happens. Who do we grab to back fill our conference?

This just seems like a lateral move, especially if CFP playoff expansion doesn't happen. There are a lot of powerful players that are against cfp expansion. The P4 has already started to take shape and I could definitely see a scenario where each p4 conference champion gets a seat at the playoff table. In my eyes it's pointless to move unless a team is moving to the acc, pac-12, big ten, or sec at this point in time.

Also, the AAC has a chance to step on the throat of the Big 12 after the expansion stunt they pulled a few years ago. Don't get mad, get even.

It can seem whatever you would like it to seem but it’s not a lateral move it’s a step up and teams are going to take it and there is nothing anyone in the sub conferences can do about it. Look at the assumed conference the B12 would assemble and it’s night and day better than the AAC. Now look at the AAC will be losing those teams and backfilling with G-d knows what. Any directionally correct move is a good move and a step towards whatever end goal you are dreaming of but at worst is better than where you currently are.

There was a time I was stuck in Austin as the blizzard that shut down Texas was rolling in and I got on a frontier flight that loaded from the tarmac on the other side of the Austin airport I didn’t know existed. Sure I could have waited for a better flight but then I wouldn’t have been able to leave for over a week later which comes with a bunch of opportunity costs as well as actualized costs. In the game of conference roulette you take any advancement that comes your way because you never know if or when another opportunity will come along.

You see the last b12 audition as a reason to consolidate and stick it to them but what you should see from that is that out of the entire conference that auditioned there are at least 4 teams not dumb enough to let their hard feelings get in the way of their advancement. The AAC is dead and there is nothing that can save it the best we can do is to make sure we are gone.
