14 is not unmanageable...two divisions 7 teams each. Only two out of division games. Then schools can determine their 4 out of conference games as they wish.

It is when you factor in the travel for all sports.

This would be a play for stability and give us the opportunity to renegotiate the TV rights contract. I could see adding just BSU for football only or also adding Air Force or Colorado State (not both) and SDSU for all sports. Burying the MWC is a good move at this point as they are the only conference that legitimately stands between the AAC and the CFP Access Bowl.

East: USF, UCF, ECU, Temple, Tulane, Navy, and Cincy
West: SDSU, BSU, Air Force, Houston, SMU, Memphis, and Tulsa

Another alternative would be to go to 16 teams and add Army and try to lure BYU into the mix. If not BYU, then Utah State or UNLV.

Army and Navy would still be able to play Air Force every year, but would likely have to agree to move their game to Thanksgiving weekend.

Of course, if Space Force starts its own academy and decides to field a team we would want to make room for them as well! LOL

From what I am reading this a football only offer and VCU would come over for basketball...again this is all speculation.

Not really. They just make the conference schedules division centric with fewer cross divisional games. It actually could result in a reduction in travel expenses if done correctly. There is nothing that says you have to play a balanced schedule, especially when there is a conference tournament to decide the champion.

Boise estimated it would cost an extra $1 mil for football travel according to the article. The Navy game is the big headache but they want to play in the West not the East.

That would be the one sport where there would be added costs, but that is BSU's to bear if they decide to come. For the non-revenue sports you could make the travel schedule more palatable with proper scheduling.

True I really believe though this is a football only deal.

I must have read that wrong then. I thought they said all sports.

Preferably, I would want an all sports member since that is what UConn was.

I think if you just add BSU then it is definitely football only. However, if you add anyone else, then you look to add their full programs if you can. We will see what happens.

With the climate going on in NCAA athletics, you’re either moving forward at a hard pace or you’re not. I think what intrigued me the most is they’re very determined to become a big player nationally.
