IMO, the best we can do is to create a conference using the best of the G5. If that requires something unorthodox like 14-16 teams in East coast /west coast divisions, then so be it. The AAC needs to create as much separation from the rest of the G5 as possible.

You do realize that this would make your elusive conference championship even harder to get than it has been, right? ......... To me this is kind of like an ocs. The mega conference would be cool and all with the west coast teams in there but it's not something that USF needs. It's fun mixing and matching all the schools in divisions but at the end of the day, our ceiling's the same whether it's in the current AAC or a coast-to-coast one ........ and considering we haven't come real close to that ceiling in the current set up, why make it more difficult by adding more good teams?

Yes that is true...it would be more difficult. Perhaps we win one before such a scenario happens. Regardless, I would be for winning a conference championship in a conference with more chops. Does it make a real difference? Perhaps a bit as we would get an almost auto bid to a NYD game if we win the conference (certainly the percentages increase more than the current AAC setup) and the regular season games would be a bit more enjoyable and have more cachet to them. I am not really calling for a “mega conference” in terms of members but 10 to 12 best of the rest.

There have been 6 G5 NY6 auto bids since they started the CFP. The AAC has 4 of them, MWC 1, MAC 1. In most years that bid should go to the AAC because we are usually stronger, top to bottom in the current setup, than the other G5's.

True...I guess I should have said the bid would be “automatic” without the NCAA using the word “automatic.”

Curious why do you think it is “pretty clear” that is the case. The smart money would disagree with that statement if you are saying a G5 school will move to P5 status.

I guess "pretty clear" is over stating it a bit.....But you honestly don't think that there will be some type of realignment / expansion within the next 10 years.  Hell alot can change in the landscape with 2 to 3 years.  I think its more likely it does happen than it doesn't.

We just need to position ourselves so we will be ready, which I think we have started that process.

But hey I'm the overly optimistic one around here, I've been told!

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
