Then maybe it’s enough to have the majority of the conference to leave and join a select few from the Mountain West - Tulsa and Tulane can split the exit money. IMO Boise State and SDSU would make more money than they would in the MWC for two reasons - the AAC is more attractive product than the MWC and will be reflective in the next TV contract, and if Aresco raids other members of the MWC then Boise State and SDSU would stand to lose money. That alone would make the two jump so they are not even further behind other schools.

The bottom line is if the AAC is to thrive then the MWC needs to die.

Ok, now you’re talking. This may very well happen if the Big12 implodes and they have five teams left. Then they will backfill with the best of the rest. Would this be a P5 conference? Maybe?

The former Big East teams that make up the AAC should definitely invite SDSU and Boise. They’d join in a heartbeat.

Boise still makes a little more. I think there is very bad blood between the current AAC presidents with the way Boise bailed out of the BE.

Geography seems to be a big problem when the non-P5s try to get a good group together. I think they have to overcome this problem if there's ever going to be anything but the P5s and everyone else.

The traveling expense formula for teams like Boise and USF will have to be reconciled if there's going to be one of these types of conference formations.

This would be an even better outcome and would further widen the gap between us and the rest of the G5. But it would require others to act first. Aresco could make a preemptive move now, and while not as exciting, would create the gap we need between ourselves and the rest of the P5. If lawsuits are a concern then keep Tulane and Tulsa and we’ll figure that out later as long as we’d don’t grow beyond 14-16 teams.

The MWC must die.

As tv negotiations start in Jan. The networks could say that they will pay conference members more if you can add team X (Boise/BYU). Thus, tv could be a catalyst for growth.

TV could be a catalyst for growth? I’d like to hear more about this theory of yours.

And that is the only scenario in which I see the AAC adding teams from the MWC.

Well it is unique relative to the G5. Name me one time you have heard that relative to a G5 conference? Try never....

I'll try 2013. The time TV and its money sent Boise and SDSU to the Big East, and then sent them right back again along with SJSU and Utah State.

I could also use the AAC/Big East adding UCF, Houston Memphis, and SMU for TV and money that same year.

If you want something more recent, Tulane and Tulsa in 2014.

Navy in 2015 just for football, unless you think that growth had absolutely nothing to do with TV.

WRONG! In 2013 tv money had nothing to do with Boise moving from the BE. They got a sweetheart deal from the MWC to keep their bowl game revenue to themselves as well as home TV games. Once Boise left SDSU had no choice as they would have been isolated. Tulane and Tulsa were added more for conference GPA reasons.

Navy is the only one TV $ had any application towards. Houston, Memphis, and SMU were added more for conference consistency and location. Sure they have populations but there never was a serious track record for people watching them on tv (hell you can include the entire conference sans Navy).

Regardless, I will hold to my point that NO tv network said “add these teams for more $.” Never did happen.

With the climate going on in NCAA athletics, you’re either moving forward at a hard pace or you’re not. I think what intrigued me the most is they’re very determined to become a big player nationally.
