I don't mean to pee in anyone's Cheerios, but exactly what have we accomplished to be in a P5 conference over any of the current teams?  We probably need to hope and position ourselves for expansion, not replacement

I think this point was covered on page 4, 83, 304, 405, 592, 613, 804, 907, 1102, 1201, 1304, 1409, 1578, 1642, and 1795.

Be a large university, with a large student population and rapidly growing alumni base in a large and desirable tv market in one of the largest and most desirable states while being one of three institutions in the state with preeminence status (the other two are already in the P5) while being one of the only three schools left that were BCS that were left out of the P5. Other than that not much I guess.

Expansion by itself is unlikely to happen. The teams in P5 conferences would lose $ if they brought in a G5 team. The only way we get in is through replacing another team that has moved to another P5 conference.

And we still can't bring in a fraction of the money Kansas does. Hence the reason they're never going anywhere and we're still on the outside looking in. When a P5 conference thinks we're going to turn them a profit, we'll be in. We can argue we think we should be and come up with every reason in the book and it will always come down to the simple math of, "Does the University of South Florida bring in more money than we'd be paying them?"

Exactly. No P5 school is ever going to be dropped. It absolutely will NEVER happen. The amount of money those schools are bringing is insanity. Anyone who thinks that Kansas or Iowa State, or someone like that, doesn't have an ironclad contract to stay in the money is out of their mind. If Kansas got the boot from the Big 12, the school would go bankrupt from the money they already have spent counting on those funds. How could anyone think they'd just put themselves in a position where that could be taken from them willy nilly?

I see your point, but then we have to wonder if we fall to the same situation that puc was mentioning and what happened with the Big East.

They aren't dropping teams willy nilly.  This isn't Premier League Soccer where you relegate teams for not performing.  There is far more involved than football even if that is the big meal ticket.

Every team in a P5 conference has some variation of this and then some.

We have more in common with them than we do with the current group we are yoked with, like you said this isn't premier league communist kickball and you do not get moved up or down based on any on field bench marks and when it comes to what seems to have mattered we have more of it than the rest of the also rans in the land of misfit toys known as the G5.

So we're the tallest midgets.  That doesn't necessarily equal a NBA contract
