My biggest problems with the whole P5 thing are:  one, we are somehow seen as lesser than Kansas, Vanderbilt, Pittsburgh, Syracuse, etc., and two, there is no set of metrics that would allow us to become a, "power" school.  We can't earn our way in.  We could have consistent 10-win seasons and finish in the top 25 and we'd still have to be invited.

And this is why one day a school or conference will file a lawsuit...there is just too much money involved for this not to eventually happen.

I think this is the only reason the P5 conferences don't break off.  I think it would lead to an anti-trust lawsuit.

Kansas was a founding member (1907) of the Big 8, which evolved into the Big 12 in 1996.   Vanderbilt was a founding member (1932) of the SEC.   Pitt and Cuse have both been playing since the dawn of time, and have large fan and donor bases.   What does USF bring to the table?

Winning

Vanderbilt 3 winning seasons since 1980   Ouch

Syracuse 4 winning seasons since 2000

Higher average attendance the past two years combined over Kansas, Vanderbilt, and Syracuse. Larger student base than all those schools. Bigger and growing TV market. And much more fertile recruiting, and recruiting in the future for that matter. That's just off the top of my head. And as a much younger school, you are actually arguing opposite your intended point.

It's great to wear green and gold sunglasses, but we have to be realistic.   You want these conferences to kick these teams out with all their tradition just to open up a spot for USF?   What exactly have we won on the grand scale?   None of the conferences need USF to recruit in Florida.  SEC and ACC certainly don't need us for visibility.  You could make an argument for the Big 12 for market exposure I guess, but that's about it.

My point was that they got there not on the merit of their football teams, but for other factors, which you so kindly pointed out.

It is amazing how tradition beats every other metric. But remember tradition also bring more $ in itself...our university is still very young and that is something that is tough to over come.

With the climate going on in NCAA athletics, you’re either moving forward at a hard pace or you’re not. I think what intrigued me the most is they’re very determined to become a big player nationally.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
