You're probably right, but to sit idle and not try is ludicrous.  If the Big East had expanded before 2003 by adding Cincinnati, Louisville, and USF.  The conference may have held together.

Oh oh I totally agree. But like society, the very very rich in the B12 know they have a way out so aren't letting the sane voices of the other schools gain traction to expand the conference to make it more viable. TX & OK got theirs so F the other schools. They can fight with the rest of the steerage class for the life rafts when the Titanic sinks and TX & OK are taken off the ship in a helicopter.

I think TX and OU have already decided to bolt and this will start the demolition of that conference. Maybe four teams will get stuck. Thus, they will backload eight teams (including USF) or those four teams will be pushed into the AAC/MWC. But I suspect teams would rather go into a water down Big12. But we would still be on the outside of a new P4. The best bet is for TX and OU to continue to make the playoffs and hope they want to stay. Then they will see a need to add two more teams to round out the conference and produce a better conf championship game. I am not convinced that USF would be one of the two teams though as there are a lot of  competitors.

The sick irony is that it's probably TX and OU blocking the expansion attempt that was just made all the while knowing they are gonna bolt. They got theirs, screw the others.

Very similar to Buttgers/sPitt (if my memory is right) and the Old BEast when they were the ones that pushed to decline the ESPiN contract renewal as they already had a deal to change conferences.

I heard from source outside of the Athletics department that TX/OU bolting to the B1G may happen sooner than later and that we'll quickly be in a much better place for athletics soon afterwards.

If that happens then the power conferences would be moving towards 16 teams and 4 divisions.

I've heard that the SEC is vetting TCU already. It would be interesting to see whom they would take at #16.

This cannot happen. I think we have visited these scenarios before but Oklahoma and OK St as well as Texas and Texas Tech are all tied to one another.  They are package deals.

Texas and Texas Tech are not tied to one another that is a myth. As for Oklahoma and Oklahoma State, they are more tied by their benefactor then by any legislation.
