I love this thread.  And i can't believe how bored people are during the bye week to come up with several more pages at this point and time.

But, hey, that's a few more pages closer to 2000!

Really good info, Mama! Thanks. That would make me happy.

I don't know if what that poster said is true.

I found this article from July 2017 where the Memphis AD mentions $6.5 million. Perhaps, TV negotiations have progressed since that time.

...So Memphis athletic director Tom Bowen looks at the money coming in, and the money going out, and says things like, “We’re just not getting the kind of media share that we hoped for.”

And they won’t, either, not this year, and maybe not ever. After sounding aggressively bullish on expansion for years, Rudd, the University of Memphis president, was sounding very different in the wake of the Big 12 debacle.

“I don’t know that we’ll ever be at the level that UCLA or USC or a Big 12 school is, but if we are better than we are today, it certainly helps,” Rudd told me. “If we went from a $2.3 million payout to $6.5 million, that’s very significant for us. Look at the production we get from the resources we have. I think we have remarkable production.”

I'd be ecstatic too, if it ends up being in that ballpark.

There is not much to really go on, except what posters say online.

Here is one such from the other day:

Post: #46 RE: AAC TV Contract with ESPN

FWIW...Memphis AD Tom Bowen was recently questioned about this on Memphis Sports Radio, approx. 1-2 months ago.

Bowen said Memphis' President Rudd, SMUs' President, and at least one other AAC President, can't remember which one, were engaged in the 2019 AAC contract re-negotiations with the Networks.

Memphis AD Tom Bowen said on the radio interview, that they were confident AAC schools would receive at least $8M-$10M with the renewed TV Contract currently under negotiation to renew in 2019.

I heard it myself, straight from the horse's mouth on Memphis Talk Radio. "At least $8 - $10 Million/per school, with the new contract."

We've clearly separated ourselves from the G4 Pack.

I'm still confident Nicole Kidman will realize she made a huge mistake with Keith Urban and come to me.

That range actually sounds fair compared to other conferences and where we are as a conference.  I wonder if espn will be bidding that high since they would most likely not need our games to meet their programming.  8-ten million is fair.  Thats close to the same half share we would have gotten if accepted into the big12.

I know there is NO WAY any team would do this, but what would be the increase if we all signed a grant of rights? Would there be any bump (again I know this is not happening nor would I want it to).

There has been some chatter about other TV entities putting in bids for the AAC TV rights. I've heard NBC in particular. I've also heard that ESPN has the right of first refusal.

So, if that is true, it could mean the AAC might get a better deal, than they otherwise would.

Was it NBC or CBS that was supposed to create this bidding war with ESPN when the Big East contract was up for renegotiation?

For me, I've always assumed that attendance numbers will open the P5 doors, because attendance means self-generated money from an incoming team.

But look at Houston. They have great home crowds, but they aren't any closer to a P5 invite than anybody else.

What does this really say about the politics of getting into a P5?

Houston was probably closer to the B12 than we were...

I'm just saying...

I don’t think that’s necessarily true. The Texas schools didn’t want it. I do believe #Expansionpalooza was a real go at it, but not enough of the Presidents//ADs wanted to share the pie when no one truly checked all of the boxes. I also believe Texas was the driving factor for NO expansion.
