Besides 'butts in the seats' and viewership;

are there really any true obstacles that make us undesirable to the P5

We've got to be able to generate at least as much as we cost another conference to add us. We'd cost every school in the Big 12 $5 million (assuming they add us and someone else). So a USF/UCF combo has to be worth an additional $70 million just to break even. That's the obstacle to our membership.

Sort of like the old, "...other than that, Mr. Lincoln, did you like the play?"

That's the case for any addition....

Yes, I’m just showing there isn’t really a leginitnate reason why we aren’t added. Two Florida teams that have an established rivalry are ranked, and yet we’re  still not considered a top tier team. It’s stupid.

You know, I know you are right but if that is the case, would the ACC not benefit from kicking out Wake?  Would the SEC not benefit from kicking out Vandy, etc.?

Getting in, that's the price of admission. Getting kicked out, well, that's a different set of rules. *cough* Big East *cough*

Yeah, I honestly took the Big East for granted.  Had no idea how fortunate we were at the time.  Wish we could have taken more advantage of that time.

Technically, they probably would, but the inevitable lawsuits would make it an absolute nightmare to go through with, not to mention the logistics. Wake is a founding member of the ACC. Ditto for Vanderbilt.

Vandy's academics alone help prop up conference perception.  Also, their baseball is probably at least as valuable as USF football.  That's not a knock on USF at all, Vandy's baseball is that stout.

I know there have been plenty of studies, but how long would it take for the conference to recoup that $70mil investment? Or would they at all?

    With the climate going on in NCAA athletics, you’re either moving forward at a hard pace or you’re not. I think what intrigued me the most is they’re very determined to become a big player nationally.
